Mission Trip Details

• Activities and Opportunities

  You will partner with a local church to share the hope and love of Jesus in a real and relevant way through a variety of ministry opportunities.

  Here are some things you might be doing in Chicago:

  • Children’s Ministry: Serve with a daycare program, build relationships, play games, and possibly accompany them on field trips to the zoo, museum, and other fun locations.
  • Homeless Ministry: Hit the streets to build relationships with the homeless. This could look like bringing snow cones and setting up a game of checkers or sitting and getting to know people. Teams will also have the opportunity to serve in homeless shelters.
  • Work Projects: This summer, the church is building a playground at a local public school and your team may get to be part of the process.
  • Refugee Ministry: As a gateway city Chicago has a large population of refugees awaiting confirmation of their official refugee status. You may have the opportunity to work with local churches to provide basic necessities like clothing (most only have what they could carry), showers, laundry, and meals to some of the many refugees in the city.
  • Response to Crime: Crime is a constant issue in large cities, and Chicago is no different. Response to Crime is an opportunity to visit a location where a violent crime occurred and reclaim that place in the name of Jesus Christ. If you choose to participate in this ministry, you will have the opportunity to pray for the victim, the perpetrator(s), their families, the first responders, and the community. You will also take communion together at the location to sanctify that space and wash the stain of violence from the land.

• Lodging

  You will stay onsite at the church and will have access to bathrooms and showers. Sleeping arrangements will be on the church floor, so bring your sleeping pad/air mattress and blankets or sleeping bag.

  Hotels are also an option, which we will arrange for you. This will come at an additional cost of roughly $25-$35 per person per day depending on the cost at the time. The earlier we can work with our hotel partners the better the chance is that the price will be favorable.

• Meals

  There is a full kitchen with anything you might need. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be served after ministry at the church each day.

• Travel and Transportation

  Your group is welcome to drive in or fly in. Chicago is home to a major airport with rental options as well. Parking is available on site. Bringing vans is highly recommended. Groups will be required to supply their own transportation to and from ministry each day.

• Health and Safety

  The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

• Registration and Payment

  $500 Deposit: This deposit is required to reserve your trip. At this point, you will lock in your trip and we will keep in touch with you going forward about preparation. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your trip.

  50% Payment: Half of your total trip cost will need to be paid 3 months before your trip.

  100% Payment: The remaining balance is due 2 months before your trip.

• Project Leader

  An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They  will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.

• Activities and Opportunities

  Our partners at City of Refuge, have a variety of ministry programs in which you’ll be able to engage. City of Refuge’s vision is to provide a refuge for those in need through the provision of humanitarian aid and holistic programing. Through feeding, housing, recovery, education, and work-readiness programming we help provide both short and long term assistance for those interested in restoring their lives and creating lasting change for their futures.  

  • Men and Women’s Recovery Programs: Serve women coming out of homelessness, addiction, and prostitution through a one-year Christ-centered restoration program. Through daily Bible classes, counseling, and life skills training, City of Refuge seeks to give men and women an opportunity to find total and complete healing in Christ.
  • Feeding Program: People from throughout the community gather for a nice meal and a chance to feel the warmth of someone who cares for them.
  • Homeless Ministry: Join a diverse team of local and international volunteers who go out on the streets weekly to minister to the homeless, addicted and displaced. This is the first step in the ladder of Ciudad Refugio’s recovery programs. An invitation is given to those who live on the streets to come and sleep in the Ciudad Refugio shelter.
  • Youth Development Program: Minister to the youth program which is a safe haven for at-risk youth where they can learn, grow and develop positive relationships with God, self and others.

• Lodging

  You will stay at Ciudad de Refugio’s ministry site. Beds, sheets, and pillows are provided for each participant. The lodging site has 60 bunk beds. Men and women will be split up. There are plenty of showers and bathrooms, a large meeting room and other smaller meeting spaces as well.

• Travel and Transportation

  Fly into Medellin and we’ll pick you up at the airport. You’ll arrange your travel with your Missions Advisor about two months before your trip. All local transportation will be provided.

• Meals

  You’ll eat like a local in Colombia! 

  Meals will be provided by our host and their local staff. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served each day. Traditional Colombian cuisine may be served as well as some basic American foods. Food preferences unfortunately will not be able to be accommodated- only food allergies will be.

• Health and Safety

  The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. • Activities and Opportunities

  • Children Ministry: At Horizon Church, their children’s ministry is an exciting and vital ministry. It is a launching pad for nurturing the faith of the next generation. Horizon Kids serves as a place of prayer for children, where they hear foundational Bible stories, and where they learn simple Biblical truths. We partner with them by providing team members to help teach in the classrooms on Sundays.
  • Youth Ministry: Jesus’ ministry on earth was spent hanging out with a ragtag team of 12 teens that changed the course of history. At Horizon, they seek to train and equip leaders to follow in Jesus’ footsteps as they are encouraged to walk with the youth in our community. We partner with them by providing team members to help serve in youth groups on Thursday nights.
  • Ministry Base Support: This ministry includes any projects we have on our property. We will rally team members for cleaning, light construction, gardening, yard work, and any other needs we have to keep up our base and create the best living environment possible.
  • Art/Mural Ministries: We have been partnering with the local government to clean up the city. Whether that’s recycling on the beach or our various art projects. Some of those projects include painting the light posts in town, painting central park, and murals in INVU park. This is also an opportunity for team members to be in the middle of town ready to share the Gospel and love of Jesus with anyone passing by.
  • Prayer Initiative In Community: This ministry included the gathering of information and prayers from all of the businesses around town. We help by sending team members out into the community to update businesses information while also asking for prayer and opening a door to share the Gospel.
  • Surf Club Family Community Outreach: The Jaco Beach Ocean’s Edge Surf Club is a positive family activity where kids between the ages of 4-10 can learn how to surf, hear a bible based message, and take care of our environment by cleaning the beach. Our goal is to create a bridge to the Church and to have a positive impact on the community. Team members will help through lifeguarding, being a surf instructor, or playing with the kids on the beach.
  • Business School Program: Business as Missions Business School Workshops & Development (BAM Business As Mission) – The purpose of the business school is to provide tools for members of the community to excel and become a light. Experienced and business-minded Christians teach classes to community members who are aspiring and/or current business owners. The classes not only teach skills such as marketing, advertisement, web design, and customer service, but also teach biblical foundations on how to conduct business in a God-honoring and missional way.
  • Ministry Events & Outreach: This ministry includes serving, organizing, childcare, etc. and any other service opportunities to help provide for the community. We like to remain open for the needs of the town. And when a need arises, we will help by sending team members to serve in any way that is needed.
  • Coffee Shop Outreach: This ministry is part of our Business As Missions Program. Team members will be able to work and help out in our coffee shop/virtual workspace serving guests, making coffee, and overall maintaining the atmosphere of the ministry space.
  • Babysitting: This ministry is on a “needed basis” whenever a need arises for babysitting church members’ children. This need could be during a conference, event, or other activity when the parent’s would need help with watching their children so they can attend. Team members would be with the children during the allotted time playing games, eating, or other activities to keep the kids entertained.
  • Homeless Feeding: This opportunity is in partnership with the local church. It is every Thursday night and they meet in the central park. Team members would help serve food, listen to the sermon, and minister to the locals suffering from homelessness during the time allotted for the feeding.

• Lodging

  During your time serving in Costa Rica, you’ll stay in the small beach town of Jaco, in the housing of Ocean’s Edge Ministries. They have a number of rooms with beds, bathrooms and small kitchens. Please bring all your sheets, bedding, pillow and towel. You may not always have hot water.

• Travel & Transportation

  Your team will fly into San Jose, Costa Rica, where we’ll meet you at the airport. We will arrange all of the ground transportation to and from the airport, as well as to and from the ministry sites during the day.

• Meals

  Your team might help out in the kitchen. Your breakfast will be cereal, bread, fruits, eggs, juice, and coffee. Your lunches will be peanut  butter and jelly sandwiches, ham and cheese sandwiches, fruits, and chips. Your dinners will be prepared onsite or at a local restaurant.

• Health and Safety

  If you are hungry for relational ministry, this mission might well be the means to satisfy that craving. Every day, we work alongside local pastors and church members, walking the streets of their mission communities, visiting the sick and elderly, sharing prayer and love with everyone. We visit churches to worship and pray with them, to hear their stories, and to share ours. Perhaps our greatest contribution to the Kingdom work in Cuba is our ministry of love and encouragement to the people of the local churches, and to their leaders.

  • “Porch Evangelism”:From an impromptu invitation as we wander through a neighborhood, to a planned visit with our local missionary, an opportunity to crawl up into that welcome, porch shade is a double delight. We escape the heat of the Cuban sun and we meet and get to know interesting people who share their stories and lives with us. Of course, we are welcome to share ours in return. God uses these porch times to touch lives, including ours.
  • Baptisms: We are often invited to the baptisms of the people in the churches we partner with, usually in a river or in the sea.
  • Sports Outreach:We participate in sports events with the community, sharing Jesus relationally and encouraging other believers.
  • Local Church Ministries: We will often get invited to the dedications of local churches or to attend other churches/church events where we can pray, share testimonies, and encourage other believers.

• Lodging

  Your hostel is an oasis that makes it much easier to endure the sometimes hot and dusty days. A typical room has two, comfortable beds; a nice bathroom and shower; and air conditioning.

• Travel & Transportation

  Fly into Havana, or one of the other international airports, and we’ll pick you up at the airport. You’ll arrange your travel with your Missions Advisor about two months before your trip. All local transportation will be provided.

  Cuba’s government is definitely a Communist dictatorship, but there has for some time been a relaxation in tension between the government and followers of Jesus. Churches are still watched, but it must have become obvious many years ago that Christians are only interested in changing hearts, reconciling them to God, restoring hope, purpose, and life in a Kingdom that is not of this world. Christians in Cuba are simply not political. They are absolutely no threat to their government. In spite of the serious poverty, crime is relatively scarce in Cuba. But you will not be positioned to be threatened by anyone. There is little danger of any kind here. Medical facilities and pharmacies are readily available. While hospital medical equipment is admittedly outdated, it still functions, and Cuban doctors are known worldwide for their excellent care and considerable medical skills.

• Meals

  You will eat freshly cooked food, prepared by cooks from our host partner churches. We will drink only purified water, drinks made with purified water, or imported sodas like Coke. If you have special food needs, it will be necessary to bring with you the foods you can consume. Cuban selection is delicious, but limited to mostly rice, plantains & bananas, beans, yucca, chicken, pork, mangos, guayaba fruit, and wheat breads.

• Activities and Opportunities

  • Children’s Ministry: Your team will be able to facilitate VBS for a local school. Many children come to know Jesus through camps like this where there are snacks, games, testimonies, and Bible stories!
  • Adopt-A-Family: Your team may be able to partner alongside local churches who know the needs of the community, and you could provide food for those in need. You can invite them to hear testimonies from your team, and then send them off with a bag of groceries and some prayer.
  • Sports Ministry: Your team may have the opportunity to facilitate a sports camp either for kids or older youth. Basketball and Soccer are very popular in the country, but other sports can also be arranged. Your team could also spend some time playing competitively in a game or tournament!

• Lodging

  Lodging will be in a local hotel where beds and bedding will be provided. Showers and restrooms will be onsite.

• Travel and Transportation

  Depending on the location of your team, you will fly into either Santiago or Santo Domingo. Our team will help coordinate travel plans such as when to arrive and depart and which airport to use. Transportation in the country during the week will likely be by private bus or vans.

• Meals

  Food will be cooked by locals, and you will have true Dominican cuisine. The locals generally eat a lot of rice, beans, chicken, and plantains.

• Activities and Opportunities

  You will come alongside the local church in the ministry they have established to reach the community with the love of Jesus in impactful and relational ways. Here are some ways you might serve in Fairbanks: 

  • Homeless Ministry: Fairbanks has a significant homeless population. You’ll partner with the church in providing hot meals and prayer for the homeless. The homeless shelter also looks for helping hands in work projects, leading chapel, serving meals, and enjoying meals with their “guests”. 

  • Community Outreach: Teams may engage the community of Fairbanks in a car wash or cookout. The team may go to a nearby park, prepare food, and facilitate games as a way to build and encourage relationships in the community.

  • Food Pantry: The food pantry collects and distributes food from the community and provides it to families in need all over Alaska. They sort through the food, repack the food, and distribute it either to the individuals or to partner agencies. They are also in need of help to do work projects to keep the pantry up and running in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Prayer Ministry: Saturate the community in prayer and help reinforce the spiritual groundwork already being done. Prayer is powerful and effective. We encourage all of our teams to spend time in the ministry of prayer.

• Lodging

  There are separate areas for men and women. You’ll be sleeping on the church floor, so bring your mats and sleep gear! These rooms will be used during the week for ministry, so each day that group will need to tidy up and move their belongings. Men and women will have their own bathroom with shower stalls in each. In order to maintain effectiveness, a shower schedule will help manage the needs of the whole group! This is definitely the type of lodging where there is space, however, we ask that you respect the property and steward it like it were your own.

  Hotel rooms are also an option and we would be glad to arrange that for you if you prefer.

• Meals

Mission Trip Details

• Activities and Opportunities

  • Cleanup/Construction – Harlem Heights and surrounding areas are still in various stages of recovery after Hurricane Ian. Groups can anticipate working in homes doing drywall, mudding and taping, laminate floor installation, installing kitchen cabinets and painting. Other scopes of work are dependent on the skill level of the group. Additionally, teams often help raise morale by keeping the neighborhood looking good – yard crews will minister to homeowners by mowing lawns, picking up garbage and helping clear debris.
  • Food Pantry Ministry – Adventures In Missions has partnered with the Harry Chapin Food Bank and the Gladiolus Food Pantry. Participants have the opportunity to assemble food kits as well as distribute goods to families in need.
  • Prayer Ministry – You and your team may have the opportunity to hear people’s stories and offer prayer. This was a traumatizing event, and some people are just looking for somebody to listen to.

  Come with a servant’s heart and a willingness to do whatever is needed. Each day may look different and things might change day-to-day depending on the need.

• Lodging

  Bunk style lodging. Male and female are separate. Showers and bathrooms are on-site. Bring your own sheets, blankets, pillows and towels.

• Travel & Transportation

  You will need to provide your own transportation during the duration of your stay in Ft. Myers. Most groups fly or drive into Ft. Myers and then obtain a rental vehicle if needed. Flights into the Tampa airport are another viable option.

• Meals

  Food is included in your trip costs. Breakfast will be a variety of both hot and cold options. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, chips and cookies to take with you for your daily activities. Dinner will usually be hot meals. A menu can be planned with your Project Leader during the weeks leading up to your trip.

• Health and Safety

  The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

  $500 Deposit: This per person deposit is required to complete your registration. At this point, you will lock in your trip and we will keep in touch with you going forward about preparation. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your trip.

  50% Payment: Half of your total trip cost will need to be paid 3 months before your trip.

  100% Payment: The remaining balance is due 2 months before your trip.

• Project Leader

  An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They  will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. • Activities and Opportunities

  • Stove Installation: Many of the local Guatemalan families that live below the poverty line cook over a fire in their home. This leads to major problems from smoke inhalation, but is a generally accepted way of life. Installing stoves into these families’ homes is a great way to show love to the community and begin a relationship that will hopefully guide them toward Jesus.
  • Clean Water: Many of the same families also struggle to access clean water in their homes. This also provides us an opportunity to meet a felt need and share the love of Jesus as we install water filtration systems and train people about the importance of clean water.
  • Church Mobilization: We partner with local churches to train up Guatemalan missionaries. This is a great opportunity to invest in Guatemalans that will eventually move to another country to share the love of Christ, make disciples and plant churches.

• Lodging

  Our base has bunk rooms specifically built and designed for short term teams. You’ll have access to bathrooms, showers, meeting space and a kitchen, all behind a safety wall and gate leading to the compound. There’s plenty of space!

  Groups will be lodging at our Base facility. Your team members will be separated by gender into separate rooms. Each room contains 4 sets of bunk beds, 8 beds in total.

  If you are a light sleeper, we recommend that you bring earplugs. Each room has a standard bathroom with running water. Adventures will provide a pair of clean sheets for you, as well as a pillow and a blanket. Each room will also have a key that team members will be responsible for.

• Meals

  Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided for the entire group, both on-site at the base, and while we’re out during ministry. Our cooks will serve a mixture of both western and Guatemalan meals. They will do their best to accommodate dietary restrictions but it is always best to bring food to supplement any dietary needs.

• Travel and Transportation

  You are responsible for your international airfare. You will be flying in Guatemala City and we will provide arrival and departure windows once your trip has been greenlit. There is no entry fee into the country.

  We will handle all of your in-country transportation, either with our vehicles or one of our trusted bus companies.

  United States citizens traveling to Guatemala will need a U.S. passport valid for at least six months past their intended length of stay. A ticket documenting onward or return travel is also needed. U.S. citizens can stay in Guatemala for up to 90 days without having a visa. Guatemalan law requires foreigners to carry their passport (or a copy) with them at all times. It’s a good idea to print off a few copies of your passport before traveling and then keep them in a waterproof bag while in Guatemala.

• Health and Safety

  The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners.   No inoculations or shots are required to enter Guatemala.

• Activities and Opportunities

  Your team will have the opportunity to partner with local churches and ministry on and around the Island. Some of your team’s ministry activities may include:

  • Nursing Home Visits: There is a fairly large elderly community in Hilton Head, and spending time in nursing homes is one of our favorite ministries. The elderly residents in nursing homes can often feel lonely. You will have one-on-one time with the residents, listening to their stories and encouraging them in their daily lives.
  • Service Projects: There is the possibility for participants to help at one of the local non-profits with various service/construction projects. It will range from painting, sweeping, and raking yards to patching holes in a roof, doing repairs and installations.
  • Beach Ministry: Because of the location, there are opportunities for ministry on the beach and reaching out to the locals and visitors. By handing out water bottles and inviting others to play a game of beach volleyball or soccer, you will have a chance to connect kids, teens, and adults.
  • Special Needs Ministry: The island has several organizations supporting both kids and adults with special needs. You can partner with them and go bowling, get some ice cream, or have a picnic in a park!

• Lodging

  Your team will stay at a local church where they will have access to bathrooms, showers, and a full kitchen. Sleeping will be on the floor, so bring air mattresses and sleeping bags, or sheets and blankets. We will eat all our meals together and participate in praise, worship and debriefing each night at the facility. There are multiple buildings so boys and girls can have their separate places at night. The lodging site does have nice green space for team building activities including a prayer path, sand volleyball court, and a pavilion!

  Hotels are also an option at an increased price. If your team would like to stay in a hotel, we encourage you to book your trip as quickly as possible to capture the best price. We will make these reservations for you through our partnership with various hotel groups.

• Meals

  There is a full kitchen with anything you might need. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be served after ministry at the church each day.

  There’s an outdoor pavilion and open grass area where a lot of our teams like to eat if it’s nice out.

• Travel and Transportation

  Your group is welcome to drive in or fly in. If your team chooses to fly in, we recommend flying into Savannah, GA. Flights are likely cheaper there. As with all our domestic trips, your team will be required to supply their own ground transportation. If you do fly, rentals are likely available near the airport. Parking is available on site for either a bus or vans.

• Health and Safety

  • Kids Ministry: We partner with a ministry that works with primarily inner city, at risk, urban, and impoverished kids. Many of them are refugees and New Americans. Their mission is to inspire kids with the genuine love of God to change the world around them. Teams will be able to participate in these children programs by helping facilitate activities, playing games, painting faces, having dance parties, serving meals, competing in sports, or even sharing a Bible message!
  • Homeless Ministry: Many of our partners help homeless people in the city of Manchester. The homeless population is devastating in the parks and streets. Teams will be able to serve meals at local soup kitchens, pass out food, snacks, and other necessities directly to homeless people, and pray for them or even share a short Bible message with crowds.
  • Recovery Ministry: Our partners who help those recovering from alcohol and substance abuse are leading people to a life of freedom from addiction and prostitution. Teams can partner with them and pray for those they encounter, assist with any projects they may have, and/or serve meals to those in need!
  • Sports Ministry: Teams could have the opportunity to engage in soccer or basketball outreach for adults, youth, or kids! There could be a potential sports camp, or teams may be able to jump into a neighborhood pickup game.
  • Foster Care Ministry: Teams will be able to hear from families who have fostered many kids in the area. These families are amazing and have incredible stories. There could be opportunities to support, engage with, pray for, and/or share a meal with them!

• Lodging

  Your team would be lodging on the local church or ministry floor. Your  team will need to provide their own bedding and potentially air mattress/sleeping pad. There will be showers and a kitchen available for use.

• Travel & Transportation

  Your group is welcome to drive in or fly in. Manchester is home to an airport with rental options as well. Parking is available on site. Groups will be required to supply their own transportation to and from ministry each day although 15 passenger vans may be available for use. If your team doesn’t mind the additional travel you may also fly into Boston and drive to Manchester.

• Meals

  • Home Repair Projects: Many in the community live in poverty and are in desperate need of some mild or significant improvements!
  • Feeding & Tutoring Program: Now operating in 22 different locations, providing meals through the summer months and after school tutoring services to over 1200 children daily under the age of 18 and disabled individuals
  • Elderly Care: Many of the elders in the community are unable to access food or other everyday basics. Not to mention the opportunity to visit with someone who cares about them!
  • Disaster Relief: Recent hurricanes have hit hard on some people in the community.
  • Vacation Bible School: Many of the local kids are out of school in the summer and left to come up with their own idea of how to spend their time while the parents are at work. Your team will have the opportunity to teach Biblical principles while reinforcing their relationship with our local ministry partners.
  • Choctaw Reservation: The Choctaw Native American Reservation is nearby and offers plenty of ministry opportunities as well. This could involve various community service projects, sports evangelism with the kids or a number of other things with the Choctaw church.

• Lodging

  You will stay at the historic Mashulaville dormitory. This site has plenty of beds, rooms, bathrooms and showers. Rooms are cooled by fans. A small “Bunkhouse” near the dorm also sleeps eight. The ground floor of the dorm has a kitchen and meeting space as well.

  A hotel is 25-30 minutes away from the ministry site and is an option as well.

• Meals

  The dorm includes a large, fully-equipped kitchen. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will usually be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be prepared by a local cook and served after ministry at the Dorm each evening.

• Travel and Transportation

  Teams are encouraged to drive in with a bus or vans. Parking is available on site. The nearest airport is Birmingham, about 2 ½ hours away. An Adventures van might be available at a small additional fee. Vans are available on a limited, first come first serve basis.

  Ministry opportunities could include:

  • Family Support: Adopt a family for the day and serve them in whatever capacity they may need. That might include clearing rubble from their home, accessing supplies or coordinating with local authorities and churches to find resources, job opportunities, a church community, etc.
  • Kids Camp: Facilitate sports, fun activities and Bible lessons for kids and youth in the Mayfield area. This helps encourage families that are deflated in the wake of the tornado as their kids have something fun and constructive to do together.
  • General Cleanup: Local authorities estimate a 2-year cleanup process. Remove rubble, clear roofing material from nearby fields and everything in-between. As you can see from the pictures, there is a LOT of cleanup work to do.
  • Sorting and Resourcing Donations: Donations have flooded the area in a short time, leaving boxes upon boxes of clothes, tarps, toys and other stuff stacked in containers and church gymnasiums. Help sort these donations and get them to families in need.

  Come with a servant’s heart and a willingness to do whatever is needed. Each day may look different and things might change day-to-day depending on the need.

• Lodging

  On the floor of a local church. Showers and bathrooms will be on-site. Bring your own bedding (air mattress, pillow and blanket)

  30 beds are provided, so if your team is larger, you may need to bring some air mattresses or cots.

  • Summer Camp Support: The large facility demands a healthy amount of maintenance and repairs, and the staff needs help to keep things running smoothly. That’s where your team can make a difference. 
  • VBS Support: Depending on the timing of your trip, there may be opportunity to assist with the planning, preparation and execution of Vacation Bible School. 
  • Sports Camp: Plan and prepare a sports camp for local youth based on your talents and local desires. 
  • Prayer Walks & Home Visitations: While praying over the community, meet locals, pray with them directly and invite them to ministry events, sports activities, etc. 
  • Clothing Bank: Help sort clothing at the local clothing distribution center while getting to learn about the local culture and community.
  • Light Construction & Maintenance: This could include painting, cleaning or helping maintain the property based on the facility needs.

• Lodging

  In this location, lodging ranges from bunk beds in dorm style rooms to sleeping on a church floor, depending on the available opportunities.

• Meals

  There is a full kitchen with anything you might need. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be served after ministry at the church each day or alongside the ministry events.

• Travel and Transportation

  Most of our Native American ministry partners are located in rural areas and require a 2-3 hour drive from the nearest airport. Many teams drive a bus or van from their home city to save on travel costs. If you choose to fly, we will direct you to the nearest airport once your location is selected. Should you choose this option, you would need to rent vehicles from the airport. Parking is available on site.

• Health and Safety

  The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

• Registration and Payment

  $500 Deposit: This deposit is required to reserve your trip. At this point, you will lock in your trip and we will keep in touch with you going forward about preparation. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your trip.

  50% Payment: Half of your total trip cost will need to be paid 3 months before your trip.

  100% Payment: The remaining balance is due 2 months before your trip.

• Project Leader

  An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They  will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.
