Respect and Dignity Guidelines
Adventures in Missions exists to develop committed Christ followers through short-term missions and other discipleship programs. Part of that is learning to share what you see in ways that honor the communities you serve. These guidelines cover how you interact on the field and how you post afterward. When you are unsure whether a story is respectful, ask your leadership team; that is what they are there for.
Ministry interaction guidelines.
- Avoid even the appearance of inappropriate conduct with children and adults.
- Respect cultural norms around flirtatious or unwelcome behavior, including gestures, hugging, and clothing.
- Do not interfere with parenting without consent from the ministry host.
- Follow the trip dress code.
- Do not give cash directly to children, families, ministries, or church members. Consult the host first.
- Do not hire anyone without the local host's consent.
- Do not exchange personal information with anyone from birth to age 18.
Posting guidelines.
- Wait for the cultural briefing before taking any photos or video at a new location.
- Learn the names of the people you photograph, and aim for God's glory rather than your own recognition.
- Do not post personal details: last names, identification, medical conditions, addresses, schools, or workplaces.
- Get a parent or guardian's consent before posting photos of children, and get individual consent for any photo.
- Do not photograph homes to depict poverty.
- Share photos with the people in them whenever you can.
- Give context. When sharing testimonies, change names and blur faces, and always do so for orphanages, the red-light district, or survivors of abuse.
- Adventures may ask you to remove any post that could cause harm.
