There were four neighbor kids that hung out with us each night. They were clingy and sometimes I wasn’t in the mood, but it was good to spend time with them and get to know them. They were so happy to be there and make friends and I was so blessed by them. It makes me think back to what Jesus says and how we’re called to have the joyful spirit of children.

Mission Trip Details

Meet the People of Baja California, Mexico

We invite you to participate in a life-transforming service in Tijuana! Tijuana is located just south of San Diego, California in Baja California, Mexico near the busiest border crossing of the world.

The city has close to 2 million people as of 2019. Many immigrants have arrived here from many parts of Latin America as they seek a way to cross into the USA and have not been able to cross and now are living here. The people predominantly have dormant faith backgrounds and lack true relationships with our friend, Jesus.

Safe for youth groups and families, this ministry opportunity is built on the back of years of cross-cultural work where locals are excited for mission teams to visit.

Service Opportunities
  • Work Projects: Your team may have the opportunity to do some light construction on the facilities of the orphanage.
  • Community Outreach/ Evangelism: Your team may have the opportunity to visit local homes near Colina de Luz. Your team will be able to pray for the believers and give them hope in Jesus and share the gospel with those that do not know Jesus.
  • Children’s Ministry: Teams will do a VBS for the kids that live here.
  • Sports Ministry: Like children’s ministry, these opportunities will depend on your location, the churchs’ needs, and the time of year in which you go. Basketball, soccer and baseball are always the best for engagement.
  • Police and Fire Station or Government Office Visits: Teams could have the chance to visit local police and fire stations to pray for the men and women serving the areas. This is a great way to engage with them, encourage them, share your faith with them, and provide them with a special treat as well!
  • Prayer Walks: Serve alongside a local church and reach out to their community with them. Discover the power of prayer and learn more about God’s heart as you pray. 

Please come with flexibility as ministry schedules may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Living Arrangements

Your team will stay inside Colina de Luz. They have room for 40 missionaries. They have bathrooms and showers. They have a nice kitchen, a basketball court, swings and a small pool. There is no A/C.

Transportation

Your team will fly into San Diego, California and we will have vans to drive into Mexico. Please be sure to have your passports handy and ready for the border crossing.

Cooking

Colina de Luz will provide all 3 meals. Breakfasts may include cereal, eggs, toast and fruit. Lunch will be sandwiches, chips, cookies and fruit. Dinner will include typical Mexican food such as tacos, enchiladas, rice, beans, and more…

Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Registration and Payment

$500 Deposit: To reserve your trip, a $500 deposit is required. This deposit locks in your spot, and we’ll stay in touch to help you with all the preparations. The best part? This deposit goes toward the total cost of your trip.

50% Payment: Three months before your trip, half of the total cost will need to be paid.

100% Payment: The remaining balance is due two months before your trip.

We’re here to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible!

Meet Your Project Leader

An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.
