I learned two things on my trip to the DR. First was to change how I look for God. So much of just life is God telling us something or giving us the opportunity to do so, so it made me feel much more connected. Second, the term “mission work” always made me think that a missions trip was just something to endure as part of being a Christian. I was confused when I found myself having loads of fun working with the kids over the week. I realized, God’s calling to work and helping others is more than an irksome obstacle to pass. I felt God’s love and enjoyed just about every second of serving.

Since 1989 we’ve been mobilizing the church to engage with Jesus and join His work at home and abroad. We’ll connect you with these opportunities while taking the hassle and guess work out of planning your trip to Dominican Republic.

Mission Trip Details

Meet the People of the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. It’s known for its beaches, resorts and golfing. Its terrain comprises rainforest, savannah and highlands, including Pico Duarte, the Caribbean’s tallest mountain. Capital city Santo Domingo has Spanish landmarks like the Gothic Catedral Primada de America dating back 5 centuries in its Zona Colonial district.

Service Opportunities

Children’s Ministry: Your team will be able to facilitate VBS for a local school. Many children come to know Jesus through camps like this where there are snacks, games, testimonies, and Bible stories!
Adopt-A-Family: Your team may be able to partner alongside local churches who know the needs of the community, and you could provide food for those in need. You can invite them to hear testimonies from your team, and then send them off with a bag of groceries and some prayer.
Sports Ministry: Your team may have the opportunity to facilitate a sports camp either for kids or older youth. Basketball and Soccer are very popular in the country, but other sports can also be arranged. Your team could also spend some time playing competitively in a game or tournament!

Living Arrangements

Lodging will be in a local hotel where beds and bedding will be provided. Showers and restrooms will be onsite.

Transportation

Depending on the location of your team, you will fly into either Santiago or Santo Domingo. Our team will help coordinate travel plans such as when to arrive and depart and which airport to use. Transportation in the country during the week will likely be by private bus or vans.

Cooking

Food will be cooked by locals, and you will have true Dominican cuisine. The locals generally eat a lot of rice, beans, chicken, and plantains.

Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Registration and Payment

$500 Deposit: To reserve your trip, a $500 deposit is required. This deposit locks in your spot, and we’ll stay in touch to help you with all the preparations. The best part? This deposit goes toward the total cost of your trip.

50% Payment: Three months before your trip, half of the total cost will need to be paid.

100% Payment: The remaining balance is due two months before your trip.

Meet Your Project Leader

An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.
