On our last night we all shared our favorite or most impactful experience from the week. Then we had a time of worship and everyone was crying and went around and prayed for each other. I formed so many bonds with people I didn’t expect. I could feel the Holy Spirit surrounding that place; it was an unreal experience that I have never felt before.
Since 1989 we’ve been mobilizing the church to engage with Jesus and join His work at home and abroad. We’ll connect you with these opportunities while taking the hassle and guess work out of planning your trip to Rural Oklahoma.

Mission Trip Details

Meet the People of Rural Oklahoma

Oklahoma is home to 52 tribes Native American tribes. In this location, your group will have the opportunity to come alongside our ministry partners as they minister to the youth of many of these tribes through summer camp programs. Through these camps and special programs, our partners hope to restore and strengthen families so their future is one of hope and peace. Let’s come alongside and help them achieve that goal. Your team will grow a lot in the process.

Mission teams often struggle to get next to Native teens on reservation missions. Here, your team will eat, sleep, play, and live with them for four days, Monday through Thursday! Local youth have come to trust our partners. They are very receptive to mission teams. Great care must be taken to preserve that trust. Your group will have the opportunity to make new friends and relationships that may last for years after your mission!

Our ministry partners have been in the community discipling Native youth for approximately 12 years. They are known, trusted, and beloved by people of the region, not only for their ministry to Native youth and kids, but for their warm and generous hearts. Camp attendance fees are very inexpensive, and often scholarships are given to kids who can’t afford even that. They serve Native tribes from all over the state.

Teams should be students in Middle School and/or Senior High. Maximum group size is 25; minimum group size is 15.

Service Opportunities
  • Assist at Camp Crossway: a faith-based summer camp for kids and youth this summer. A four-day, overnight Bible camp for Native kids in 6th-9th grades; and a four-day set of Day Camps for kids in K-5th grades.  What amazing opportunities!

  • Red Rock Outreach: About 20 miles from Camp Crossway, Pastor Jimmy runs a snack shop, clothes bank, and counseling center in Red Rock. It is a very popular place in the community and is a great location to work with Pastor Jimmy to customize your trip activities!
  • Red Rock Community Vacation Bible School: Prepare and host a local VBS for this rural community.  There are not many summertime offerings for this local community so your team could get to know many community kids and their families to make this a community mission!
Living Arrangements

In this location, lodging ranges from bunk beds in dorm style rooms to sleeping on a church floor, depending on the available opportunities.

Transportation

If you fly, Tulsa’s airport is about 80 miles from camp. Stillwater’s airport is smaller but only 22 miles from camp. Please be sure to plan ahead which rental vehicle options are available for you. Camp Crossway is located in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Throughout the week, teams will use their own vehicles for transportation.

Cooking

There is a full kitchen with anything you might need. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be served after ministry at the church each day or alongside the ministry events.

Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Registration and Payment

$500 Deposit: To reserve your trip, a $500 deposit is required. This deposit locks in your spot, and we’ll stay in touch to help you with all the preparations. The best part? This deposit goes toward the total cost of your trip.

50% Payment: Three months before your trip, half of the total cost will need to be paid.

100% Payment: The remaining balance is due two months before your trip.

We’re here to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible!

Meet Your Project Leader

An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.
