Home rebuilding
Roofing, framing, block work, and finishing on homes damaged by Hurricane Melissa, overseen by skilled leaders.

Mission trips to
Hurricane Melissa took the roofs off more than 120,000 buildings. Come help put them back.
The story
When Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica in the fall of 2025, more than 90,000 families were affected and more than 120,000 structures lost their roofs. Our Adventures Relief team was on the ground within days with food, water, and formula, and then we did what we always do after the first wave of help leaves: we stayed. Today we run a relief base in George's Plain, Westmoreland, about an hour from Montego Bay, where up to 32 volunteers at a time rebuild homes and churches alongside local congregations.
Jamaica mission trips here come in two forms. The Guided Mission Trip, at $695 per person, is for youth groups, churches, families, and individuals who want a Mission Leader, full logistics, ministry programming, and a team T-shirt and journal. No construction experience is needed; skilled leaders oversee the roofing, framing, block work, and finishing. The Skilled Relief option, starting at $299 per person, is for tradespeople and experienced DIYers who can run their own crew. It covers lodging, food, local transportation, and ministry programming, and leaves out the group leader and coordination you do not need.
The week runs Saturday to Saturday. Sunday you worship at a New Testament Church of God and get oriented. Monday through Friday you eat breakfast at 7:30, pray together, head out to the job site at 9:00, and come back around 4:00 for a debrief and a hot dinner cooked by local cooks. Along the way there is time for soccer outreach, shared meals with neighbors, and the kind of conversations that happen when you are rebuilding someone's kitchen.
This is hands-on work in a hot, humid, post-disaster setting, so we ask for participants 16 and older who are ready for it. Ms. Myrtle James, 85, lost her home in the storm; a team is building her a new 16 by 24 house with its own bathroom and kitchen. There are a lot more homes like hers. Your team can be part of the next one.

Logistics
You stay at our relief base on a fenced four-acre property in George's Plain, Westmoreland, with on-site security and a night guard. Rooms are dorm-style, gender-separated bunk rooms with fans; there are five showers and four toilets with running water, a communal dining area, and a space for devotionals. Power runs on a scheduled generator and may be intermittent, and Wi-Fi and cell service are limited. Bring a sheet, light blanket, and pillow.
Hot meals are prepared on base by local cooks. Filtered drinking water is available at the base; bring a reusable bottle for the job site.
Fly into Montego Bay (MBJ), arriving before 3:00 p.m. on Saturday if you can, and depart after 1:00 p.m. the following Saturday. Adventures Relief arranges Saturday airport pickup and the hour-long transfer to the base. Travel during the week is coordinated group transport only. If you arrive on another day, a local driver can be booked in advance for a fee.
Your destination guide
Bring a valid passport and complete the C5 form before you fly. Most communication happens on WhatsApp, and cell service is spotty, so add an international roaming plan or buy a Jamaican eSIM. Pack closed-toe shoes and modest work clothing; gloves and eye protection are welcome. Optional add-ons include a Hurricane Melissa tour ($40) and a sunset dinner in Negril ($60), subject to group interest.

Adventures Relief leadership is with your team from arrival to departure, with clear supervision, communication, and emergency protocols. A trusted local doctor is reachable by phone, and the nearest hospital is about 20 minutes from the base. The U.S. Embassy advises increased caution in Jamaica, so we recommend international medical insurance with evacuation coverage, mosquito precautions, and routine vaccines including tetanus per CDC guidance.
