The story
Why a women's mission trip to Costa Rica.
Most people know Costa Rica for its beaches and rainforests, and 5.2 million people call it home. Step outside the tourist zones, though, and you find real poverty and families coming apart. The message your team carries into those neighborhoods is simple: the love of Jesus has not changed, and it still speaks to these women's lives.
On a women's mission trip to Costa Rica you serve with our partner Casa Transforma in poor urban neighborhoods of San José. The women you meet are single mothers, survivors of sexual exploitation, and immigrants, and many bring their children along. Your team hosts Beauty for Ashes retreats for the women and helps lead Christ-centered sessions for their kids at the same time.
Beauty for Ashes has been creating safe places like this since 2014, where stories are shared, connections are made, and grace is given; the program has reached more than 5,000 women in 60 countries. You will learn to speak about worth, identity, healing, and forgiveness through your own storytelling and openness. Along the way you get to know your teammates well and come to a deeper understanding of God and of yourself as His daughter.
A trained Beauty for Ashes leader meets you at the San José airport and stays with the team all week. Three live virtual training sessions beforehand introduce your leader and walk through the retreat content, so you arrive prepared. Adventures in Missions has sent teams since 1989; bring a servant's heart and expect daily plans to change.

What you'll do.
Women's Retreats
Sessions for the children
While the mothers are in retreat, your team helps lead Christ-centered sessions for their children.
Storytelling on worth, identity, healing, and forgiveness
You will practice sharing your own story with openness, and invite single mothers, survivors of sexual exploitation, and immigrant women to do the same.
Relationship building
Time with your team and with the women you serve is the ministry itself, and you will leave with friendships on both sides.
Programs
Who this trip is for.
This trip is for women ages 19 to 69 who want to serve mothers and their children and are comfortable with a shared, hands-on week, including some cooking. Individuals and small groups of friends are welcome, and no ministry experience is needed. Teams run 12 to 13 women.
Logistics
Where you'll stay, eat, and get around.
Lodging
A ministry host provides your housing in San José. Basic bedding and pillows are supplied, and showers and bathrooms are on site.
Meals
Team members share cooking duties, and a local cook also prepares meals, so expect a mix of both over the week.
Transportation
Fly into San José International Airport (SJO). Your trip leader meets the team there and arranges transport to the ministry site; you will get an email with the meeting point closer to the trip. Air travel is your responsibility, and please do not buy flights until you receive confirmed arrival and departure times.

Internal and external risk management teams review every trip, your ministry partner provides location-specific safety guidelines, and your Beauty for Ashes leader is trained in risk management with support both on the field and from the home office. You will stay in pairs at all times. Casa Transforma provides trip-specific safety guidelines for the neighborhoods where you serve.
