Women in need and Refugees OR Prison Ministry

Women’s Mission Trips to Colombia

March 2025 – Prison Ministry

From the Andes Mountains to the Amazon rainforest, Colombia is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world. It is also home to over 130 prisons that houses women in need of hope.

The prison population faces various emotional challenges, such as anxiety, depression, stress, isolation, and lack of meaning of life. Lack of access to mental and emotional health care services further aggravates these situations. Many inmates have lost hope for a better life and the possibility of reintegrating into society in a positive way. The women in the prisons of Colombia need to encounter a loving relationship with God.

July 2025 – Refugee & Outreach Ministry

From the Andes Mountains to the Amazon rainforest, Colombia is one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world. It is also home to unreached tribes, a large student population rapidly rejecting the Gospel, and thousands of children living on the streets. Colombia sits at the crossroads of Central and South America, making its culture almost as diverse as its natural resources.

Heavily influenced by Native American, Latin, European, African, Middle Eastern, and American cultures, 71% of its people practice Roman Catholicism. However, it is heavily influenced by tribal religions and focuses on works, instead of a relationship with Jesus. The women of Colombia need to encounter a loving relationship with God.

Details about women’s mission trips with Adventures in Missions

March 2025

Prison Ministry

Activities and Opportunities

On this mission trip, you will serve the women in one of the prisons of Medellin, Colombia. You’ll meet and share God stories with women in desperate need of hope, healing, and redemption.

Your team will:

  • Host Beauty for Ashes retreats to create spaces for God to bring restoration to the stories of women in prison.
  • Be equipped to share about topics such as worth, identity, healing, and forgiveness with others through storytelling and vulnerability.
  • Build meaningful relationships within your team.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of who God is and who you are as His daughter.

Come with a servant’s heart and a willingness to do whatever is needed. Each day may look different and things might change day-to-day depending on the need.

Lodging

You will lodge at missionary housing provided by a local pastor. Beds, sheets, and pillows are provided for each participant.

Meals

Meals will be prepared by a local cook. We will be sure to provide purified water while we are out.

We encourage you to drink as much purified water as possible. Make sure you are drinking continuously, even when you do not feel thirsty. You will need to bring a reusable water bottle for the week.

Travel and Transportation

The destination is Medellin, Colombia. Your team will fly into Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE). Your trip leader will meet you and set up transportation to the ministry site. As the trip gets closer you will receive an email with a specific meeting location within the airport. Do not purchase your flight until you have received an email with the arrival and departure times.

All local transportation will be arranged for by your trip leader. Air transportation is the participant’s responsibility.

Health and Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., participants must be in pairs at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Registration and Payment

$100 Deposit: This deposit is applied to the total cost of your trip and is required to reserve your trip. The deposit is due a week after you have been accepted to the trip. Acceptance typically happens at the end of your phone interview.

50% Payment: Half of your total trip cost will need to be paid 6 weeks before your trip.

100% Payment: The remaining balance is due 1 month before your trip.

Training

Three live virtual training sessions are required for this trip. Typically the training sessions are hosted during the week in the early evening. Once your trip’s launching is confirmed, you will be provided the dates and time for the training.

During the training you will be introduced to your trip leader and your team. The team will walk through retreat sessions and learn the lay out of Beauty for Ashes retreats.

Testimonials

Ruths Story

You’ve got a story to tell. It’s significant, powerful, and you want it to count for something. That’s exactly how Ruth and her team felt on the very first Beauty for Ashes trip in 2014. They wanted to see women set free from the lies they had believed for years. On that trip, Ruth met a woman named Nancy. She realized this new friend had a story in need of God’s redemption. After her time with Ruth, Nancy began believing God’s truth — her story does matter.

Psalm 107:2 says “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.” Since 2014, Beauty for Ashes has reached over 5,000 women in 60 countries because of people like you, who are willing to share their story of redemption. We’ve hosted hundreds of retreats and small groups around the world, and have seen our curriculum proven as an effective tool God is using to foster lasting change in the lives of women.

If you want to join a Christ-centered community of women committed to sharing God’s love to all of the nations, then it’s time for you to join us in Albania.
