I was honored to be able to help change kids’ lives and get to love so many people. Also seeing the change we have made in lives in the community was an amazing experience! I definitely grew and saw the difference in me. I struggled a bit with God yet I loved the devotionals. I really connected with him, and I really loved it.

Mission Trip Details

Meet the People of New Orleans

Hurricane Ida has ravaged New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Many towns are flooded, people were left trapped in their homes and roads turned into rivers! We have been working in New Orleans since Katrina hit, when we sent 4,000 people there in one year. Our ministry partners are evaluating how to move forward. Some of their churches and homes were severely damaged. It will take a long while to recover. With your help, it won’t be as difficult. Join us in New Orleans!

Service Opportunities

In the summer of 2006, Adventures brought in teams of 200 per week for 10 weeks. These young people “gutted” a lot of houses, which was the first step in rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane laid waste to much of New Orleans, claiming over 1,500 lives in Louisiana alone. During this time we began to focus our efforts with our ministry partners in an area called Holly Grove. This ministry reached displaced families and with an emphasis on the young people in the community.

Now after more than 15 years, our partners are not only still working in Holly Grove but have reached hundreds of kids and their families. Through our partners efforts, teams will be able to participate in a variety of ministry opportunities:

Kids Camp: Many of our partner churches will host VBS camps throughout the year, especially during the summer. Teams will be able to assist them in helping facilitate programs for these kids camps, including helping with sports, snacks, crafts, Bible lessons, and other fun activities where they may be able to build meaningful relationships, share their faith, and pray for others.
Disaster Relief & Work/Service Projects: Your team will have the opportunity to work alongside our partner ministries to continue the revitalization effort of this incredible community through light construction and disaster relief projects.
Homeless Ministry: Teams may have the opportunity to walk the streets of downtown New Orleans, engaging in conversations with the locals in the area. They may encounter many homeless people where the Lord will lead them to pray for them or help meet a need.
Prayer Walking: Team will also have the opportunity to listen in prayer and hear from God on what to do/who to serve during the day. The Lord may lead them to a specific neighborhood, street, or house, and teams can be led to pray for strangers and start meaningful conversations with them.
Business as Mission: One of our partner ministries uses business as a mission field for those recovering from alcohol and substance abuse and prostitution. These businesses serve as a great avenue for these people to come and be employed, learning life skills as they begin to build a sustainable life with Christian influences. Teams will be able to come alongside them and help sort clothes in a thrift store, wash cars at a car wash, or serve coffee at a coffee shop. Teams will be able to hear redemption stories and pray for those they feel led to pray for.

Living Arrangements

You will have the option of staying at a Ministry called Jesus Miracle Power run by Mama Jan Stratton. We eat and meet at her Apple Street HQ and stay at two of her houses just a mile or so away. Bunk Beds and all bed linens are provided with A/C and hot showers.

Larger groups will stay on the floor at a nearby church and will need to bring bedding.

Hotels are also an option at an increased price. If your team would like to stay in a hotel, we encourage you to book your trip as quickly as possible to capture the best price. We will make these reservations for you through our partnership with various hotel groups.

Transportation

Your group is welcome to drive in or fly in. New Orleans is home to a major airport with rental options as well. Parking is available on site. Bringing vans or multiple vehicles. Groups will be required to supply their own transportation to and from ministry each day, often in several different locations at the same time!

Cooking

There is a fully equipped kitchen with a lot of refrigerator, freezer, and pantry space. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be prepared by a cook and served by the team after ministry at the church each day.

Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Registration and Payment

$500 Deposit: To reserve your trip, a $500 deposit is required. This deposit locks in your spot, and we’ll stay in touch to help you with all the preparations. The best part? This deposit goes toward the total cost of your trip.

50% Payment: Three months before your trip, half of the total cost will need to be paid.

100% Payment: The remaining balance is due two months before your trip.

Meet Your Project Leader

An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.
