Considered one of the top ten family-friendly beaches in the world, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina hosts more than two million tourists a year. The island features 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean.
This island is a beautiful place, rich with history. But beyond the fairways and tennis courts of Hilton Head Island, poverty paralyzes many of the locals. The island’s poorest residents, who most often are elderly, need help cleaning up their homes and are often lacking in care from someone who just wants to spend time with them. You can impact many different demographics in Hilton Head with the love of Jesus.

Activities and Opportunities
Your team will have the opportunity to partner with local churches and ministry on and around the Island. Some of your team’s ministry activities may include:
- Nursing Home Visits: There is a fairly large elderly community in Hilton Head, and spending time in nursing homes is one of our favorite ministries. The elderly residents in nursing homes can often feel lonely. You will have one-on-one time with the residents, listening to their stories and encouraging them in their daily lives.
- Service Projects: There is the possibility for participants to help at one of the local non-profits with various service/construction projects. It will range from painting, sweeping, and raking yards to patching holes in a roof, doing repairs and installations.
- Beach Ministry: Because of the location, there are opportunities for ministry on the beach and reaching out to the locals and visitors. By handing out water bottles and inviting others to play a game of beach volleyball or soccer, you will have a chance to connect kids, teens, and adults.
- Special Needs Ministry: The island has several organizations supporting both kids and adults with special needs. You can partner with them and go bowling, get some ice cream, or have a picnic in a park!
Lodging
Your team will stay at a local church where they will have access to bathrooms, showers, and a full kitchen. Sleeping will be on the floor, so bring air mattresses and sleeping bags, or sheets and blankets. We will eat all our meals together and participate in praise, worship and debriefing each night at the facility. There are multiple buildings so boys and girls can have their separate places at night. The lodging site does have nice green space for team building activities including a prayer path, sand volleyball court, and a pavilion!
Hotels are also an option at an increased price. If your team would like to stay in a hotel, we encourage you to book your trip as quickly as possible to capture the best price. We will make these reservations for you through our partnership with various hotel groups.
Meals
There is a full kitchen with anything you might need. Meals are very much a team effort, and we have a lot of fun in the process! Teams will participate in meal prep and serving. Breakfast will be cold cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. Hot breakfasts could be available as well, depending on the group’s willingness to contribute to the meal prep and cooking. Lunch will be packed sandwiches, fruit and a side to take to the ministry site. Hot dinners will typically be served after ministry at the church each day.
There’s an outdoor pavilion and open grass area where a lot of our teams like to eat if it’s nice out.
Travel and Transportation
Your group is welcome to drive in or fly in. If your team chooses to fly in, we recommend flying into Savannah, GA. Flights are likely cheaper there. As with all our domestic trips, your team will be required to supply their own ground transportation. If you do fly, rentals are likely available near the airport. Parking is available on site for either a bus or vans.
Health and Safety
The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.
Registration and Payment
$500 Deposit: This deposit is required to reserve your trip. At this point, you will lock in your trip and we will keep in touch with you going forward about preparation. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your trip.
50% Payment: Half of your total trip cost will need to be paid 3 months before your trip.
100% Payment: The remaining balance is due 2 months before your trip.
Project Leader
An adult Project Leader will be assigned to your team throughout the duration of your trip. They will stay with you and your team, as well as engage daily with you throughout ministry and daily life activities. This leader will have strong missions experience, leadership experience and a demonstrated competence in the area of discipleship of youth and young adults. In most cases, your project leader will help with facilitating ministry, meals and daily debrief and devotional time. Your Project Leader will be assigned to your trip and you’ll have the opportunity to have conversations with them during the weeks leading up to your trip.
