Women’s Mission Trips to Guatemala

Known as “The Land of Eternal Spring”, Guatemala is rich in natural beauty—from the shores of Lake Atitlan, to the peaks of its 37 volcanoes, this Central American nation is one of the most beautiful in the world. Yet, the true beauty of Guatemala is its people.

Gripped by poverty, the people of Guatemala hunger for the Kingdom of God. The majority of Guatemalans practice a form of Catholicism, and it’s estimated many also mix in ancient tribal religions and cultural traditions into their faith.

In 2007, Guatemala’s orphan population was estimated at 370,000—in a country whose overall population is only 15 million.

When international adoptions from Guatemala closed in 2007, the number has only continued to rise as orphanages have become overcrowded and more children are abandoned due to poor living conditions.

Details about women’s mission trips with Adventures in Missions

Activities and Opportunities

The team will serve alongside our Adventures Guatemala Base and our local Beauty for Ashes coordinator.

Your team will:

  • Host Beauty for Ashes retreats to create spaces for God to bring hope, healing, and redemption to the stories of local women.
  • Be equipped to share about topics such as worth, identity, healing, and forgiveness with others through storytelling and vulnerability.
  • Build meaningful relationships within your team and those with whom you minister.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of who God is and who you are as His daughter.

Come with a servant’s heart and a willingness to do whatever is needed. Each day may look different and things might change day-to-day depending on the need.

Lodging

Your team will stay at our Adventures Guatemala Base, which is about 20 minutes outside of Antigua. The base is set up with bunk beds, showers, and bathrooms. Electricity and limited wifi are available too.

The trip leader can access wifi in case of emergencies. Other than that we encourage the team to stay off wifi. If you require steady Wi-Fi during your week of ministry, we recommend contacting your cell phone provider to purchase an international plan.

Meals

Meals will be provided for the entire team, both on-site at the base, and while we’re out during ministry. Local cooks will serve a mixture of both western and Guatemalan meals. They will do their best to accommodate dietary restrictions but it is always best to bring food to supplement any dietary needs.

Our Base facility is outfitted with several water purifiers to ensure that you are consuming clean water. Please note, while it is safe to drink the water at our Base, it is not while out at ministry. We will be sure to provide purified water while we are out.

We encourage you to drink as much purified water as possible. Make sure you are drinking continuously, even when you do not feel thirsty. You will need to bring a reusable water bottle for the week.

Travel and Transportation

The destination is Parramos, Guatemala. Your team will fly into Guatemala City Airport (GUA). Your trip leader will meet you and set up transportation to the ministry site. As the trip gets closer you will receive an email with a specific meeting location within the airport. Do not purchase your flight until you have received an email with the arrival and departure times.

All local transportation will be arranged for by your trip leader. Air transportation is the participant’s responsibility.

Health and Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., participants must be in pairs at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Registration and Payment

$27 Deposit: This deposit is applied to the total cost of your trip and is required to reserve your trip. The deposit is due a week after you have been accepted to the trip. Acceptance typically happens at the end of your phone interview.

50% Payment: Half of your total trip cost will need to be paid 6 weeks before your trip.

100% Payment: The remaining balance is due 1 month before your trip.

Training

Three live virtual training sessions are required for this trip. Typically the training sessions are hosted during the week in the early evening. Once your trip’s launching is confirmed, you will be provided the dates and time for the training.

During the training you will be introduced to your trip leader and your team. The team will walk through retreat sessions and learn the lay out of Beauty for Ashes retreats.

Testimonials

Ruths Story

You’ve got a story to tell. It’s significant, powerful, and you want it to count for something. That’s exactly how Ruth and her team felt on the very first Beauty for Ashes trip in 2014. They wanted to see women set free from the lies they had believed for years. On that trip, Ruth met a woman named Nancy. She realized this new friend had a story in need of God’s redemption. After her time with Ruth, Nancy began believing God’s truth — her story does matter.

Psalm 107:2 says “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.” Since 2014, Beauty for Ashes has reached over 5,000 women in 60 countries because of people like you, who are willing to share their story of redemption. We’ve hosted hundreds of retreats and small groups around the world, and have seen our curriculum proven as an effective tool God is using to foster lasting change in the lives of women.

If you want to join a Christ-centered community of women committed to sharing God’s love to all of the nations, then it’s time for you to join us in Albania.
