In Malawi, Africa, Colten Murray and his Passport team walk a road that takes them by a witch doctor’s home three times a day. There, witch doctors are sought out by people to heal the sick and contact the spiritual realm. People give them respect and honor, unaware of the darkness.
Colten waves back as the witch doctor smiles a friendly smile and waves at the team when they walk by her house to get water.
But she knows their light outshines her darkness. She even went as far as to have the path moved away from her house because the Christians were coming too close. She understands they exude a light that interferes with her contacting the spirits she relies on for power.
In the middle of Africa, a woman practicing dark magic sees that these followers of Christ, simply by their existence, carry the presence of God into the darkness of her world.
As we live our every day lives, whether we’re grocery shopping, jogging, or working, Christ’s light shines in us. Sometimes we try to evaluate our capabilities as Christians by the volume of our "deeds". We measure the quality of the small group we lead, how many hours we do volunteer work, or how many houses we've constructed for families in the third world.
When we read Matthew 5 we are reminded by Jesus, "they will know you are my disciples by the way you love one another." It's true that who we are, and our outward expression of love towards all people, spreads the light of God.
We go through our day-to-day routines thinking that we have to do something to share Christ, but we seldom comprehend that Jesus can be seen by others because of the light that he is inside us. Do you see the light of Christ in you?
