8:00—wake up and chow time
8:30—meet at the front gate to find out the day’s assignments and pray as a team
9-2—WORK! Digging, shoveling, carrying, dumping, moving, and holding dirt and rocks.
2-3—chow time
3-7—feedback (group reflection on what went well/poorly throughout the day) nap, coffee, read, shower, have some great conversations about the Lord
7—chow time
8-?—more conversation with the great people on my team and then sleep and rest because work is starting again soon!
Although each day holds the same hourly schedule more or less, you never know what’s in store. Maybe one day you expect to shovel, shovel, and keep shoveling yet learn to weld footings for a retaining wall, another you expect to carry buckets back and forth but find yourself shoveling large rocks for 4 hours (try it), the next day you think you’re headed to a hospital to love people there but somehow manage to take your first motorcycle ride ever through the absolutely most gorgeous scenery you’ve laid eyes on. Or maybe instead of working on a retaining wall you decide to stay home because you’re feeling a little sick.
All this to say: PLANS SHMLANS.
“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17-7-8
