"Welcome to training camp passporters! Here's your first assignment: You have ten minutes to return to your cabin and get THREE items. Those three items are all you will have till tomorrow morning. Choose wisely!"
I don't know what I was expecting for training camp, but THAT certainly was not it. Using the boyscout skills I don't have to build a shelter out of tarp and ropes was not what I expected. Sleeping outside in the Georgia humidity and pine needles was not what I expected.
(Our first night at training camp, sleeping in our expertly made tarp shelter)
But God works most through the unexpected.
I wasn't expecting to love my team so deeply and so quickly.
(Top Left: Taylor and Jill, Bottom Left: Ashlynn and Morgan; Front Right: Karina and Me; Back Right: Belle)
I wasn't expecting to prefer sleeping outside in my hammock over sleeping inside in a cabin.
I wasn't expecting to lay down and be completely freed from baggage I've been chained to my entire life.
I wasn't expecting to be so moved in worship that I could do nothing else but cry out for Agnes and the women there.
I wasn't expecting to speak truth into strangers lives or have spot-on truth spoken over me.
I have been praying that God would use this trip to radically change me, but I never expected the change to begin so suddently. I have been blessed in abundance these past two and a half days, and I am NOT the same anymore. I have a completely new identity in Christ, and my worth exists because of God's love. I now know that I have been completely healed spiritually. I also now know that I must choose EACH and EVERY day to walk in this healing and newness.
Get ready Guatemala, God's warriors are coming to break apart chains and set your captives free.
Isaiah 61:1-3
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has annointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor,
and teh day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in [Guatemala]-
to give them a beautiful headress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord; that he may display his beauty.
