Going on a Matthew 10 Mission Trip

When Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph had no place to stay so Jesus sleeps in a trough. Could you imagine then, over thirty years later, Mary being surprised at the way Jesus leads?

We read in Matthew 10 how Jesus sends out the twelve disciples; similarly, Jesus sends out another seventy or so followers, as found in Luke 10. Both times he instructs them to:
  • proclaim that the kingdom of God is near
  • heal the sick
  • travel light.
He also tells the twelve to cast out demons, cleanse people from leprosy, and raise the dead.
Do you wonder what it’d be like to experience ministry like that, not just to read about it but to live it? God wants that for us, too, as Seth Barnes wrote:

Jesus has tremendous faith in those of us who follow him and is waiting to show off through us, giving us the same power he gave his disciples.

The seventy went to places that Jesus himself was about to go. Jesus demonstrated the love and power of God in action to the disciples then had them go and do likewise. He is the short-term missionary par excellence. This is how Jesus modeled ministry, not just while he was on earth, but for us today.
We believe it’s not only possible to experience a Matthew (and Luke) 10 mission trip, but it’s a reality. For example, Teri Frana, one of our staff, has traveled through the U.S. in this way, and explains in this blog the how and why of the Kingdom Dreams tour.
In the coming year, why not resolve to journey the way Jesus did, if only for a week? Check out the opportunities we have available — to places like AppalachiaCameroonHaitiIrelandIsraelPeruPhilippinesWashington DC — for you to embark on your Matthew 10 mission trip.
