Adventures in Missions Introduces “Social Justice and the Gospel” at Catalyst Conference

Gainesville, GA, Oct. 5
Adventures in Missions is
partnering with this year’s Catalyst conference (October 5-7) to unveil a visitor
tent highlighting the role of social justice in the gospel story.

“Christians
often focus on just the Fall and the Redemption — ‘We’re sinners and we need
Jesus’ — but when we leave out the messages of Creation and Restoration, we’re
cutting out half of the gospel,” said Daniel Homrich, Adventures marketing
director.
The
40-by 80-foot tent will allow
conference attendees to journey through four parts of the gospel
story — Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. In their journey, participants
will learn about four great social ills: unsafe water, slavery, orphans, and
poverty.
“If we believe that God created the world a
certain way, then we can believe that He is not simply going to redeem it but use
us to help restore it to its created state,” said Homrich. “For example, God
created water to be life-giving, but the Fall contaminated much of our water.
Through organizations like Charity Water, we can redeem the role of water in
the world by partnering with groups like Charity Water to restore water as a
life-giving source to those who need it.”
At
the tent entrance, participants will witness a mural of Creation, then
experience elements of the Fall through media and statistics about social
injustices. They will see glimpses of Redemption through organizations like International Justice Mission that fight human trafficking and Bethany
Christian Services
that facilitates adoptions. Lastly, they’ll have the
opportunity to take action toward social justice by engaging with several
partner organizations: Adventures, Mission YearConvoy of HopeI-HeartGift
Card Giver
Advent Conspiracy, and Venture Expeditions
In
addition to the social justice tent, Adventures will further illustrate this
four-part gospel vision by partnering with Catalyst to shine a spotlight on the World Race. Geared toward 21-35 year-olds, the World Race is an 11-month
journey for a small group of travelers to 11 countries to share the hope of
Christ to the “least of these.”
At
one of Catalyst’s main sessions, a new “World Racer” — Brandon Boyd, a
26-year-old automobile restorer from Vancouver, Wash. — will launch his 11-month
pilgrimage from the stage, in front of 13,000 conference attendees, telling his
personal story of redemption and how this trip will give him an opportunity to bring
restoration to a broken world.
“Adventures
in Missions is thrilled to partner with Catalyst to launch a World Racer at the
beginning of his journey around the world,” said Allison Johnston, World Race
program coordinator. “Thousands of young leaders will have the opportunity to
follow Brandon as he lives the life of a disciple in eleven nations and be
inspired by his radical dependency on the Lord.”
About Adventures in
Missions

Adventures in Missions is an
interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. We
emphasize prayer and relationships in our work among the poor.
Since we were established in
1989, we have taken over 90,000 people into the mission field, some for as
short as a week and others for as long as a year. In several places around the
world, we offer year-round ministry to “the least of these.” We believe that by
giving people the opportunity to hold orphans, bring hope to the hopeless, and
pray for the sick, lives are transformed.
Our desire is that God would
use us to raise up a generation of radically committed disciples of Jesus
Christ.
About Catalyst
Catalyst is an annual
gathering of young leaders, a movement of influencers and world changers who
love Jesus, see things differently, and feel a burden for today’s generation.
