Hearing God’s Voice

In the middle of uncertainty we know this to be true: Jesus is still the answer. He is the only answer. We have hope because we know Him and have seen His heart for His people. Women are longing for connection with the Lord and each other. And Beauty for Ashes, the women’s ministry of Adventures in Missions, is grateful to create space for women to encounter Him on a weekly basis through Virtual Retreats in the midst of being quarantined.

Women are being deeply impacted by the Lord through the many virtual retreats being held around the country. There are women walking out of shame, finding community, and hearing God’s voice for the first time! Mary shared her experience with us.

“Before the retreat, I wondered how to hear from God. I wasn’t sure if I did. During our first session, our host answered these questions and shared practical ways to identify God’s voice.

She then invited us to ask God a specific question, “God if we could play a game right now what would it be?”

I hadn’t thought about asking God such a question. Much to my surprise, I was able to hear God’s voice! God wanted to play on a swing set with me.

At first, when this thought came to me I wanted to dismiss it. It brought back a childhood memory. My father would swing me and I initially enjoyed it. However, then I would become afraid because I would swing super high and fast. I would shout for him to stop. However, he would do the opposite: swing me faster while laughing at me.

The second question we were invited to ask God was, “Why do you want to play this game with me?”

I continued to hear from God! He said, ‘Because I want you to know that I am your Father behind you protecting you, never pushing you towards fear. I will always stand behind you protecting you. I will push you to learn and grow, but never farther than you are capable.’ Never pushing me towards fear because ultimately I will always fall back into His hands.

Not only did I hear from God but He spoke such comfort to my heart.”

Just like Mary, many women are connecting with God in their story and experiencing His hope! God is restoring and comforting.
