High School Summer Missions: It Ain’t Summer Camp

“We love Jesus, yes, we do! We love Jesus, how ’bout you?”

It’s been a long time since you’ve been to vacation Bible school (VBS), but chants like this bring you right back. Sure, there’s something refreshing about being able to shout your love for God across the dining hall to your fellow/rival campers, but now that you’re 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18 years old… you’re starting to ask yourself…

  • What if someone actually replied, “No”? I’d say no only to see how everyone would react (I really do love Jesus). How would I react? How would everyone else respond?
  • All those memory verses that I had to memorize before every meal throughout the years – do I still remember them?
  • Those beaded bracelets that help explain the gospel and those Bible verse bookmarks – where did I put those? Did I actually give them away or use them to tell my seeking friends and classmates about Jesus?
  • Is there more to being a Christian than just reviewing what I believe with other believers?
  • Am I the only one who has all these questions about faith, about God? Is it okay?
  • Am I the only one who keeps having to get saved every summer?
  • I want God to use me – does he have a plan to use me?

Does summer camp (the Christian kind) feel like Bible boot camp? You’ve “passed” with flying colors and now you’re feeling restless. You’re ready to face battle.

You’re ready to declare your love for Jesus in comfortable situations, among strangers, at the cost of your pride. You’re ready to experience what it means to wield God’s word as the sword of the Spirit – like it says in Ephesians.

You’re ready to engage in meaningful conversations that will introduce people to Jesus and lead them into a relationship with him. You’re ready to encourage and be encouraged by fellow believers to put what you know into action.

You’re ready to wrestle with God, hoping all those questions will bring you closer to him. Now that you’ve established and your rooted in Jesus as your savior, you want to let God take you on that long journey of holiness, becoming more like him.

And the more you become like Christ, the more you’ll follow in his footsteps. You’re ready for your faith, your relationship with God to go deeper, to become more real.

We believe God wants to use you; yes, he has a plan to use you. We’re hoping that going on missions with us will line up with his plans for you. You’re ready to make a difference.

Check out the many opportunities we have coming up this summer. You’re welcome to call us with any questions or concerns at 800-881-2461.

You’re ready for something different and missions isn’t summer camp.
