At Adventures in Missions, we believe in the transformative power of creating space to hear from the Lord. It’s in those moments of stillness, surrender, and obedience that we witness incredible change – not just in the lives of those we serve but in our own hearts as well.
Nick, one of our mission leaders, recently shared a story that powerfully demonstrates the impact of listening to God and stepping out in faith.
On a recent mission trip, our students participated in an “Ask the Lord” (ATL) time. This is a time of intentional prayer and listening for God’s guidance. They asked for His direction and committed to obeying whatever He placed on their hearts.
Through this time of quiet surrender, the students were led to new people in the community, built unexpected relationships, and met both physical and spiritual needs. They stepped out boldly, shared the gospel, and saw God move in ways that only He could orchestrate.
One story stands out as a testament to the power of listening to God.
A teen in the community had been closed off for most of the trip, keeping his pain and story to himself. But as the group continued to connect with him, his walls began to come down. Over time, he opened up to Nick, sharing the difficulties and hurt that had shaped his life.
Nick listened with compassion and spoke with him about how Jesus could bring real change and healing. On the final night of the trip, the group gathered to pray over the teen. Tears welled in his eyes as he experienced the love of God through their prayers and encouragement. His heart softened, and he left that night deeply impacted by the hope and healing found in Jesus.
Stories like this remind us why we go on mission. These trips are about more than service projects or travel – they’re about creating space for God to work, stepping out in obedience, and bringing the hope of Jesus to people in need.
Whether it’s praying for someone, meeting a tangible need, or sharing the gospel, every action is an opportunity for transformation. And the beauty of mission work is that the transformation doesn’t stop with those we serve. As participants, we grow in faith, courage, and trust in the Lord.
This work isn’t finished. There are more people waiting to hear the hope of Jesus, more communities that need love and restoration. And we need people like you – people who are willing to listen to God, act in faith, and make an eternal impact.
