Gregory Grimmett has been volunteering with us in Alabama and shares his thoughts on our Alabama blog.
I know sometimes we sing words in a song during worship saying that nothing is impossible for God, but do we truly believe it?
Is nothing really impossible?
I’ve had the privilege of getting to know a man here by the name of Israel. We had training with him yesterday for disaster relief, yet we learned very little of what you might consider disaster relief. Instead, the whole day, he showed us ways to expand our thinking and to think outside the box.
In one exercise the only way to complete the task was to literally draw outside the box. He pushed us outside of our comfort zones and showed us invisible barriers that we place on ourselves that we’re not even aware of, barriers that translate to our relationship with God and just about any aspects of our lives.
I’m learning that I’ve placed what I think is possible and impossible for God to do, even though I say God can do anything; in my heart, I sometimes don’t believe it. I’m praying that I see the impossible become possible on this journey.
With the recent tornado that ripped through miles of homes and buildings, it has left the people here in literal ruins: sheds are destroyed entrapping vehicles underneath, cars completely thrown to another side of town, roofs completely gone, churches destroyed, and lives left in the chaos. Seeing the disaster area first hand makes you wonder how your life would be if this happened to you.
How would you rebuild? Would you be able? One elderly couple by the name of Elaine and Edward could not.
Edward was in a car accident over a year ago and is unable to do just about anything. His wife doesn’t know much about construction and even if she did, she couldn’t physically do it.
Adventures members were able to put a new roof on their home and clean up their yard, and put new tar paper on the side of their walls. We have plans to put in an indoor bathroom. Elaine’s whole life she has had to use an outhouse. We want to provide her with something to make her life easier.
Edward’s physical condition keeps him from doing what his heart says: to work. We’ve had the privilege of being able to pray for healing in his life. Although his physical conditions have not yet changed, we know that God is going to honor our prayers and heal Edward completely. We believe he will be healed by the supernatural power of God.
I hope these pictures stir something in your heart to pray for Edward and his wife as well as the people in Alabama. Maybe even to the point of coming here to meet them yourself. God bless you.
