THE PHASES OF WR DLTA

FALL & SPRING LAUNCH PHASE LAYOUT

Depending on when you launch your DLTA experience, your phases will assume a different order. Fall participants begin with the Phase 1: The Hull (students) , move to Phase 2: The Sails (apprentice) in the spring, and to Phase 3: The Compass (activation) in the summer. Participants who launch in the spring begin with Phase 1: The Hull , move to Phase 3: The Compass (activation) in the summer, and finish out in Phase 2: The Sails (apprentice) in the fall. Participants are not required to complete all three phases but are encouraged to do so to get the most out of the experience possible.

PHASES OFFERED by SEMESTER

Spring: Phase 1: The Hull (Student)  & Phase 2 (Apprentice) Phase
Summer: Phase 3: The Compass (Activation)
Fall: Phase 1: The Hull (Student)  & Phase 2 (Apprentice) Phase
*All new students must start with the Student Phase. Next two phases may be in either order.

Phase 1: The Hull STUDENT PHASE

Students will spend about 5 months devoted mainly toward learning and developing through content and classroom activation.  Our curriculum is directed by the phrases: “Know God, Know Yourself, Know Kingdom.”  While this segment of WR DLTA is content heavy, we also create unique learning experiences and environments.  Students can expect to have interactive teachings, engage creatively and actively, participate in class discussions, and experience self discovery through presentations and group projects.  Students have class all day Mondays and every morning Tuesday through Friday.  Friday is also a student-led time of fellowship to care for the needs of the community.

In “Know God” we explore Biblical foundations and begin a semester-long, college level hermeneutics course to understand how to read and interpret the Bible.  Students also spend a week on each aspect of the Trinity: Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.

In “Know Yourself” students are challenged to face the aspects of themselves that keep them from a right relationship with God and others.  We confront head on the issues of identity in Christ, sin, shame, fear, forgiveness, repentance, healing of emotional wounds, and deliverance.  We also discuss how to live whole healthy lives through emotional, spiritual, relational, physical, and financial health.

During “Know Kingdom” we explore what the Kingdom of God is, how to be citizens of heaven in the ordinary of life, and explore our own individual callings.  We also explore how to be leaders and good communicators and have healthy relationships within the Kingdom and as we lead others to the Good News of Jesus.

Students also take part in “Ownership Weeks” which fall in between our three main modules.  The students are given the opportunity to take leadership within their own class.  The first is a week-long retreat to care for our own community.  The second is a service week that is planned and executed by the class.  The final will challenge them to take these skills to develop their own Capstone project.  This project is an individual project for each student to have the opportunity to explore and activate his or her perceived calling.

Phase 2: The Sails APPRENTICE PHASE

The focus of the apprentice phase is just that: apprenticeship.  At DLTA we seek to connect our participants with apprenticeship opportunities that connect them to their perceived calling and help develop them personally, professionally, as leaders, and as ministers of the Gospel.  These apprenticeships take place Wednesday through Fridays.

Monday and Tuesdays apprentices continue to deepen their understanding of God, the church and the Kingdom.  Apprentices have their own classes that take place all day Monday and Tuesday.  They also have opportunities to teach the DLTA students on occasion and have more freedom through peer-led online coursework. They follow the modules “Led by God, Love the Church, Live Kingdom.”

In “Led by God” apprentices learn the importance of knowing God’s Word: both the written logos and the spoken rhema.  They discuss how God has led revivals in the past and what that means for us now.  Apprentices explore what it means to be led by God and how to tap into His strength.

“Love the Church” begins with a basic understanding of church history, what the early church consisted of, and what we can learn about all these approaches for today.  We hope apprentices reconnect with the body of Christ and learn to love her as the bride.  Apprentices are also taught about the five fold ministry and how they can be activated within the body of Christ today.

In “Live Kingdom” apprentices go deeper into the concepts of the Kingdom of God.  How to engage in the kingdom in ordinary life.  They are activated to do more ministry in our community. Apprentices learn the history of missions and how to translate discipleship to life in the USA.

Apprentices who are assigned to WR DLTA as apprentices for the program itself will participate in many leadership opportunities within the DLTA community.  All apprentices who are able will assist with ownership weeks where possible and other responsibilities and projects within the organization itself.

Phase 3: The Compass ACTIVATION PHASE

The activation phase gives our participants the opportunity to activate everything they have learned in order to serve others in the world.  They will engage their leadership skills, their ministry skills, and put their increased maturity to the test.

The activation phase takes two forms:

Those who start in the fall and have completed 10 months of DLTA have the opportunity to build and design their own missions trip.  During their apprentice phase, they will be asking the Lord as a class where to go and what to do.  In partnership with the expertise from World Race, these participants will lead, create, develop, plan, and execute their own missions trip!!  DLTA staff will be on stand-by as field support to the team from the states for their practical, logistical, emotional, relational, and spiritual support.  Participants will also take roles to lead logistics (travel, food, security, housing, etc), lead as point of contact to a host, leaders who intentionally create space to care for the team by relational and spiritual support, and leaders who will manage the finances and budgets.  As you can see, the opportunities for leadership and growth are enormous in this space and the opportunity for ministry is endless!  With our expert support and experience through the World Race, we also provide sound guidance for them to move forward with wisdom.

Those who start in the spring and have only completed the student phase have the opportunity to still engage and activate what they have learned but with a bit more support.  These participants will have the opportunity to connect with our partners to serve in leadership roles for short term projects or missions during the summer.  Adventures in Missions Short Term Missions program receives many short term trips to our bases throughout the summer.  Some DLTA participants will have the opportunity to serve as the leader for those short term trips at our bases.  We also have connections with summer camps and other opportunities for leadership and service during those summer months for our participants.
