Working Hand in Hand with God

Here at Adventures we know that missions doesn’t happen alone. From our many contacts all over the world, to the countless missionaries willing to serve the nations, to all our supporters at home, we give thanks to God for all your support this year. One of our World Race: Gap Year participants, Irene Hackett, looks back on her experience, sees how much she’s changed and experienced, and thanks all the people who partnered with her to make it possible. Have you ever thought about your purpose in life? Have you ever thought about why you’re here on this earth, why you...

Speaking Of Pilgrims, Want To Be One?

Colby Gardner is one of a few men from Adventures in Missions who hiked the Camino de Santiago in Spain earlier this year. On their adventure, they met many pilgrims along the way and learned about life and God alongside them. It’s a journey you too can join this summer. Life with Jesus is about the journey. And here I was on a journey across Spain. As we began to walk, I began to realize that we have an ample amount of time to process. The first day was a 9 hour, 19.5 mile journey, and I almost didn’t know what to do with myself. Pilgrims or...

Being The Church of Hope

Life on the field can get hectic. Between travel, getting used to new cultural norms, and full days of ministry, it can be easy to miss the needs in front of you. However Megan Kennedy discovered, sometimes God places people that need care right in front of you.   The night Nehemiah showed up, I was distracted. The internet hadn’t been working all day. I had a million things on my to-do list. After a long day of ministry, I sat down in the office of our compound, exhausted, but ready to work.  I barely said hello to this man I had never seen before as he walked...

Adventure Awaits You, and It’s Closer than You Think

Dayna Bickham led an Adventures Family trip to Appalachia. She saw the beauty and diversity of the body of Christ as her team served a ministry there. The body of Christ looks like the diversity found on a family mission trip. Our youngest participant was six years old and the oldest was 76. The beautiful unity of young and old, men and women, working and retired, and people from every season of life working together stood out to me. The first two mornings of the trip, I took three small groups to work with an organization called “Live It!” There we learned what ministry can...

When God Speaks, Haiti Gets Healed

You don’t need to have experience in construction or a Bible degree to make an impact in Haiti. Even though there are desperate physical needs for physical disaster relief, many overlook the spiritual need that can be met if you’re willing to be a vessel of God’s grace. Ben, a participant in a youth trip to Haiti writes about experiencing the great need for prayer in Haiti.  I was nervous about participating in an Ask the Lord (ATL). We were each supposed to pray quietly for 25 to 30 minutes listening to what God has to tell or show us. Why would God want...

Philippines Typhoon Disaster Relief

Typhoon Haiyan decimated the Philippines last week. Two million people in 41 provinces have been affected by the typhoon; officials have estimated that 10,000 people lost their lives. We watched, horrified, as whole cities crumbled and villages were swept out to sea. We watched as reports of desperate people looting for food and supplies came in from news sources worldwide. We watched a nation sink to its knees. But we don’t have to watch anymore. We can do something. You can do something. Stay informed. We’ve got teams already in place to meet needs that matter, to help...

Introducing World Race Day: Today We’re All Racers

Today is 11/11. If you’re part of the Adventures family but aren’t familiar with the World Race, you might not know this: We are big fans of the number 11 around here. It’s the number of months World Racers spend on the mission field, the number of amazing new countries they get to explore, the number of times God changes their hearts as they fall in love with his people around the world. Our Racers already love 11/11 – every year they share stories, host fundraising events, and tell people about the incredible things they’re doing on the Race.  But this...

It’s Show Time: Zi’s Film Is Here!

All month we’ve been sharing stories of orphans and children at risk. Thanks to you, our Adventures family, our missionaries have met and loved these kids. Together you’ve prayed for them, sponsored them, advocated for them, and even adopted them. And now we want to share a final story that has become close to our hearts. Two years ago, we watched as World Racer Jenn Watson met a little Chinese boy with Down Syndrome named Zi. Jenn took a leap of faith when she asked her family to adopt him, and God opened every door to make it possible. In Psalm 68:6, God promises that he sets...

One Month to Change a Life Forever: Zi’s Story

Can you really change someone’s life in a month? No, but God can. And he uses short-term trips like the World Race to make huge, lasting changes in families around the world when individuals surrender their plans to him. All month we’ve been sharing stories of orphans and children at risk who our missionaries have met and loved. We’ve told you about how you can pray for them, sponsor them, advocate for them, and even adopt them.  And now we want to share a final story that has become close to our hearts. And make sure to check out the very end for a glimpse of...

Epoch 2013: Photo Blog

Last night we had the amazing opportunity to celebrate unsung heroes from all over the globe at the 2013 Epoch Awards at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA. In the coming weeks we’ll be able to tell even more stories from the night, but for now we wanted to share pictures from this incredible event. Enjoy! After hearing story upon story of unsung heroes that have continued to serve despite the odds, we ended last night at Epoch Awards with this parting thought: Jesus is alive, he’s always good, and despite the days when things look darkest, he is always...

The Down and Dirty of Missions

Candace Jeffcoat can’t tell you why in the world she is in Honduras. Sure, she can tell you what she’s doing, who she is meeting, and what ministries she helps on a daily basis. But lately while investing in the local neighborhood in Honduras, Candace found answers in places she never expected, and a God that shaped her heart. I’ve tried writing/blogging in the early mornings I spend with Jesus while holding a sleeping baby that was conceived from rape. I’ve tried after a long day of building dorms that will one day be filled with volunteers and victims of...
