What Big Foot Taught us About Generosity

His name is Big Foot. Like many nicknames in Jamaica, everyone seems to know him by it. Big Foot works as a garbage collector. Day after day, he collects things other people no longer want. But where most people see trash, Big Foot sees possibility. When he invited us to visit his home, he proudly showed us around. Much of his house had once been discarded by someone else. Materials that had been thrown away, forgotten, or abandoned had been salvaged, repurposed, and given a second life. What others considered useless had become shelter. What others overlooked had become home. Then we...

The Cross Around Jerry’s Neck

Meeting Jerry: A Quiet Beginning When our disaster relief team first met Jerry in Jamaica, he barely said a word. We were providing hurricane relief, repairing the roof of his mother Sandy’s home after Hurricane Melissa devastated western Jamaica. Like many families across western Jamaica, they were trying to recover from a storm that had turned life upside down. Jerry showed up to help. He wasn’t very talkative. He rarely smiled. Most of the time, he kept to himself. But he worked. While volunteers climbed onto the roof, Jerry climbed right alongside them. He carried...

The Green Pickup Truck

Sometimes God’s provision shows up in ways we could never plan. One of our Adventures Relief team leaders in Jamaica woke up early one morning after a vivid dream. In it, she saw a green pickup truck and felt prompted by the Lord to pray for the man who owned it. She could have dismissed it. Instead, she obeyed. She shared the dream with another member of our team, and together they began walking through George’s Plain looking for the truck. Before long, they found it. The very truck from her dream. After asking around, they found the owner and introduced themselves. His name was Dougie....

The Woman in the Red Dress

A Chance Encounter After Hurricane Melissa Months ago, one of our volunteers, Beverly, noticed a young woman sitting alone outside a damaged shop in George’s Plain. She wore a red dress. She was very pregnant. And she looked defeated. Hurricane Melissa had left deep scars throughout this Jamaican community, and many families were simply trying to make it through another day. Something about this young woman caught Beverly’s attention. Instead of walking past, she stopped. Her name was Lizzan. As they talked, Beverly shared about the hope found in Jesus. Before they parted...

How Short-Term Mission Trips Change Lives – Including Yours

A Story of Connection and Faith Sometimes the moments that change us most don’t happen in stadiums or spotlights. They happen quietly. On sidewalks. Around dinner tables. In simple conversations with people who just need to know they are seen. That’s what Amanda discovered on one of our short-term mission trips at Adventures in Missions. During a homeless outreach ministry, her team was distributing food and supplies when a man approached them asking for help. He struggled to communicate with the group because he was deaf. As the team looked around trying to understand him, they called...

More Than Rebuilding Homes: How Disaster Relief Mission Trips Restore Hope

What Disaster Relief Mission Trips Really Look Like When most people think about disaster relief mission trips, they picture work gloves, construction tools, and long days rebuilding damaged homes. And yes, there’s plenty of that. But for the team from Auburn Hills Church who traveled to Black Mountain, North Carolina with Adventures Relief in April 2026, the most meaningful work had very little to do with flooring, windows, or paint. It had everything to do with people. At first, the team arrived expecting to focus on projects. There were homes to repair, walls to paint, and families...

Supporting the Mission from Home: How Sponsors and Donors Make an Impact

Sihlelelo wakes up early each morning in Eswatini. Before the sun has fully risen, she’s already stepping into responsibilities most children her age shouldn’t have to carry. She helps care for her younger sister. She prepares what she can with what little they have. And then, like thousands of other children, she begins the walk to a place that has become a lifeline in her world. The CarePoint. When she arrives, she’s greeted with something simple, but powerful. A warm meal. A familiar face. A place where she can breathe, laugh, learn, and be reminded that she is not alone. What she...

Why Long-Term Missions Matter: Building Roots for Lasting Impact

There’s a difference between visiting and staying. At Adventures in Missions, we’ve learned that one of the most powerful ways to bring lasting change is to be present, not just for a week, but for the long haul. That’s why we’ve invested in establishing long-term mission bases around the world. Our international bases are more than launching pads for World Race or STM teams. They are hubs of hope, places where deep relationships are built, local leaders are empowered, and long-term sustainability becomes reality. When we choose to stay, everything changes. The Power of Presence The gospel...

In Eswatini, a Generation Is Rising, And They’re Hungry for More Than Food

Every morning in Eswatini, children walk for miles to reach a place that offers more than just a meal. It’s called a CarePoint. And for many, it’s the only place where they are consistently fed, not just with food, but with love, truth, and the kind of hope that takes root deep in the soul. Seven-year-old Sihlelelo is one of those children. She lives with her grandmother and younger sister. Her grandmother works as a cleaner at the local police station, leaving early in the morning and returning long after sunset. In her absence, Sihlelelo carries the weight of responsibility well beyond...

Missions in the City vs. Missions Abroad – And Why Both Matter

When most people think about missions, they tend to picture one of two things: a vibrant international adventure… or a local outreach just down the street. But for Ambassadors students, both Chicago and Costa Rica show something powerful: God’s Kingdom is alive everywhere, and every place teaches us something different about His heart. Chicago: Worship in the Heart of a City In Chicago, students step into the pulse of urban life – music, culture, noise, movement, people everywhere. It’s a place where ministry looks like pop-up worship services, prayer walks, worship at the beach,...

Why Hospitality Matters on the Mission Field

Hospitality isn’t just about setting the table or making someone feel welcome. On the mission field, hospitality becomes a sacred exchange, where giving and receiving meet in holy tension. Whether you’re hosting a women’s retreat in rural Appalachia, being offered mangoes in a Guatemalan village, or sitting cross-legged on a woven mat in Cambodia, one thing becomes clear: Mission isn’t just about what we bring, it’s about how we receive. Hospitality Is the Posture of the Kingdom Scripture reminds us to “practice hospitality” (Romans 12:13) and not to forget to show it to...
