This one was filled with names.

While serving on a disaster relief mission with Adventures Relief in Black Mountain, our team visited a homeowner named Betty whose house had been damaged by Hurricane Helene. As she welcomed us inside, she reached for a well-worn Bible and began turning the pages.

Her Bible was filled with signatures from volunteers who had helped restore her home.

One by one, they had signed their names.

Not because anyone asked them to.

Because they wanted her to remember she wasn’t alone.

As one volunteer held that Bible, something clicked:

More Than Just Restoring Homes

We spend a lot of time talking about repairing homes. We celebrate new roofs, rebuilt porches, and completed projects. But that Bible told a different story.

Long after the tools were packed away, what remained wasn’t just the work.

It was the people.

Every signature represented a volunteer who had chosen to show up for a short-term mission trip to serve their neighbor. Someone who had listened, prayed, encouraged, and reminded a homeowner that God had not forgotten her.

She returned home with a deeper faith, stronger friendships, and a renewed desire to keep serving wherever God leads next.

This transformation is the heart of what we see so often through Adventures Relief disaster relief operations.

As homes are restored and communities begin to heal through these mission trips, God transforms the hearts of everyone involved.
