Happy ‘Thanks Jesus’ Day!

So, they tell me that Thanksgiving is in a couple of days. I find this very hard to believe because there is no snow on the ground…In all reality, I’m in shorts and sweating and it’s not quite 8 AM. However, that does not mean we are not in the Thanksgiving mood around here! We are bringing Thanksgiving to Guatemala this year. My awesome teammate Sarah has devised the plan of hosting Thanksgiving and we have invited many of our friends we have made while being here (There are going to be 50 (mas or menos) people there)!...

Against All Odds

Well, no tear jerker blog this week, but instead I have a story for you. It’s completely real, not fiction, 100% fact. As you are probably aware, tomorrow is Thanksgiving and as citizens of the United States of America, we can’t miss the good ole turkey and stuffing. So, Thanksgiving is coming to Guatemala! In preparation for all the cooking, Glenalyn and I got to go back to Honduras for some grocery shopping.  What a day. I could have almost imagined myself back home for just a few hours inside the big Americanized...

Trusting in Him

God has been showing me and teaching me so much on this trip. This past week, He has brought me to a place that I have never been before. I am at a place now where I actually BELIEVE that God’s plan for me is the best plan for my life. Before this trip, I always knew that, but now, I truly believe it. The thought of giving God complete control of my life no longer scares me. It actually makes me excited! Whether He wants me to stay in the United States for the rest of my life or live in a foreign country doing medical missions, I am at peace, knowing that He will always be with...

Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here

Tonight we went back to Bar Popeye. I wish I was going to be able to put into words what happened tonight, but words really can’t do it justice. I’m not sure how to describe it to people so that they can understand.  We know this bar and the women there. These were the ladies we danced with, the ladies that have shared their entire stories with us. Only two were there tonight, and one e hadn’t ever seen before. When we asked where the other women were, they told us that drugs and alcohol had gotten in the way and prohibited them from working anymore. A porn film is...

WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

"Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Psalm 100:3-5 Happy Thanksgiving to all back in the States! Today is day 82 on the mission field and we have 19 days left on this Guatemala adventure. God is so good! Our team was more than blessed this week. We got the opportunity to go visit the Mayan Ruins and...

If You Give a Missionary a Turkey…

If you give a missionary a turkey…   If you give a missionary a turkey, they’re going to want some stuffing. After the stuffing, you know they’ll ask for a piece of pumpkin pie. And what good is pumpkin pie without a scoop of ice cream? But if you give them ice cream, they’re going to want a spoon. And if you give a missionary a spoon, they’re going to want a chair. Well, if they have a chair, they’re going to want a table. And if there’s a table, that missionary is going to want friends. With friends, they’ll want...

Think You’re an Average Joe? Think Again!

So, here’s the deal. All of those Bible stories we’ve heard about since we were kids aren’t ancient fairy tales. And all of those heroes and heroines in those Bible stories weren’t superheroes. They were regular Joes just like you and me, and their stories can be your story. So how did these regular Joes manage to do things so incredible that their stories have now been told for thousands of years? “By faith.” What? Yes, by faith! “By faith” all of these regular Joes in the Bible became great warriors and did powerful things...

Family Mission Trips: Why Go?

You may have noticed last month, much of our attention has been focused on the over 40 children who were being trafficked, neglected and/or abused at the Son of God orphanage. Thanks to your intercession and support, the media picked up the story, and the orphanage was shut down.  We as a ministry have been so encouraged by how the family of God at large have rallied around these children. Thank you for your praying and advocating for the children of the Son of God orphanage. We’re continuing to minister with our partners to build a new home for them; to donate, click...

Loving Phnom Penh

Our team moved to Phnom Penh this past week where we will stay for the remainder of our time here in Cambodia—and it has already been a crazy ride.  I love Phnom Penh—I feel alive here.  There is so much going on in this city in every way—there is a lot of need, but there is also a lot of good happening.  God has presented our team with a lot of different opportunities to serve Him.  I had to break down my blog in a few different pieces—so don’t feel bad if you just pick one subtitle and read about that—that sounds good to me.  I...

Precious Women

Precious Women:   I visited the organization called Precious Women who’s vision is:  To see all exploited women who work at karaoke bars, beer gardens and brothels in Cambodia live with dignity, equality and hope.  That’s a beautiful vision.  Precious Women was founded by Solida Seng and it is the first outreach of its kind to women in Phnom Penh.  Each Friday, Precious Women outreach teams go out to Beer Gardens, Karaoke Bars and brothels in Phnom Penh to build relationships with both the women working as prostitutes there and the owners of the...

I Can’t Think of an Enticing Title

Humans have a lot of gifts. And I’m not talking about spiritual gifts. We have those, too (duh), but we all have certain things that we’re amazingly good at, and the combination of gifts is different for each individual. Some can sing, some can draw, some can act, some can run, some love animals…the list goes on and on. And there’s a reason for that. God undoubtedly asks us to do things we don’t want to do. But what I’ve realized after knowing him for a while is that he also asks us to do things that we passionately love to do, because he put that...

Where you invest your love, is where you invest your life

What is faith? Are you relying on your expectation of ‘faith’ in God? Or are you relying on faith in God? I’m beginning to think that many of us no longer acknowledge the difference between placing our faith in God, versus placing our faith in our expectations of faith in God. Choosing to live with faith in God, rather than faith in expectation, allows us to live the life we were called to; an extraordinary one. Continually choosing a life of abandonment to the Spirit of God, results in continually walking in the power of the Spirit of God. When Jesus called the...
