It’s Sunday evening. Sunday evening is wifi night, which also means it’s blog night. GAH I intended to already have this written but I don’t and I can’t figure out where in the world I should start.

It’s only been a week since we began our ministry in Kampot but things already feel pretty normal and Vuthy and the guys feel like family. We’ve grown pretty accustomed to rice and squatty potties and bucket showers. Brushing our teeth outside starts and ends our day and hammocking takes up about every free minute. My feet are always dirty and I’ve just accepted the fact that I go to bed sweaty and/or dirty every night. And hey! I don’t even notice the mosquito net around my bed anymore and I’ve grown to love the smell of bug spray.

Every morning for breakfast, two or three people go to the market on the tuk tuk with Vuthy or Pektra. It typically costs no more than 6 or 7 dollars for all 9 of us and we get bread, Cambodia’s version of a pancake or waffle, or Cambodian donuts, and lots and lots of variations of fruit. For lunch and dinner, Vuthy’s sister cooks and we all eat together and it’s always delicious! For dessert, we typically venture out across the street to our friend Nan’s house and buy cookies and iced coffee (which consists of condensed milk and coffee in a plastic bag with ice) It’s so yummy. We love trying new snacks and sodas.

Monday through Friday, we teach English to different kids in the community, including the boys we live with (who also teach and translate with us). The kids range from 3 to 30 and although it’s definitely been a challenge for some us, but it’s going to be so cool to see the progress they make and the relationships we get to build with them. It’s already been incredible to see God work through us in the classroom. We also have something every night with the boys that we live with. I’ll have to get pictures of all them and introduce them all. They’re pretty awesome. We do a bible study with them Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesday we do worship and Friday we have a movie night. Saturday is our free day and last Saturday, we went to this beautiful lake by the mountains. This Saturday we went to a Cambodia wedding (CRAZY), but there will be more about that later. Sunday is probably one of my favorite days, and it’s also one of the busiest. Church is awesome; we get to give a testimony and a message, and of course there’s awesome worship, in English AND Khmer. Sunday is also smoothie night with the guys (which is tonight!! Yay!)

This country is SO beautiful and so are the people. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I’m here for another two and half months. As I just heard Kate say, the days are so slow and long, but full of such an array of emotions and adventures and experiences. I’m struggling and growing and learning more and more about God every day. This truly is the trip of a lifetime and I’m so thankful for all of you that helped me get here. God is moving here, and it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing big changes in this country.
