Jenna, a Real Life participant in Kenya, shares a story about a lady she has been ministering to during her time in Africa…
Louis is a lady who has been in the woman’s ward at the hospital since October paralyzed from the waste down from an accident. Everyday the doctors have to rotate her on all sides so that bed sores don’t form. When we 1st met Louis she was this sweet, timid lady who would barely look at us. She loved to sing, but she would never sing for us- we just has to sing for her.
She could barely lift herself up; she had no strength in her arms and no feeling in her legs. Our group would visit her every time and just sit with her and sing to her and just love her. But last time we went it was different.
We came into her room and she was on her side facing us. She had a HUGE smile on her face with her hymn book in her hand just waiting for us. She said that she was singing praises, and we asked if we could hear some. With total confidence she lifted herself up to rearrange so she could sing for us. Her high, raspy voice was so quiet that you had to be completely silent to hear. She would sing every verse to the songs and she did it with such joy. Sometimes people just need someone to listen to them. So we just sat and listened to her song after song.
It was neat to see a new found confidence in this Louis. And it encouraged our spirits to see the strength in her arms return – she could even lift herself up. After talking to her she told us that she now has “sensation” in her legs! What?! This lady has been in the hospital bed, paralyzed since OCTOBER! She has feeling in her legs. She said that when we first came and prayed for her that she couldn’t even feel us touch her feet but now she can feel. What a miracle! It is slow, but there is progress! Praise God.
This 48 yr. old woman, who looks as if she is 70 yrs. old, loves to sings and praise the Lord- I have never seen her without a smile, and God is beginning to heal her. It is true that a “cheerful heart is good medicine” and that God is our ultimate healer.
