Arriving at the airport, I was nervous, anxious, and excited. There were different emotions going through as I was soon going to meet my fellow teammates. My parents and I found one of my teammates and we quickly got to know each other. I felt much comfortable after meeting her. Not long after, many more people showed up and I got to meet all of them. Training camp was fun and not at all what I was expecting. Guatemala is gorgeous. Puerto Barrios is a small port town with a similar town right next to it called Santo Tomas de Castillo.
In the first couple of weeks, we would go to different places in pray for people or just the area. The garbage dump was extremely hard to see. I have so many tangible things compared to the little boys and girls or the fathers and mothers of the dump. They have so much joy and seem to not see anything wrong with their situations. I like living with less because it makes me look forward to all the small things and I feel so blessed and grateful for all that I have. For instance, this one day I was thinking to myself of how excited I was to have a shower later that night and while I was in the shower I was trying to figure out something else I was excited for. I had a fan to sleep with at night and I was so happy to get to go to bed with that somewhat close to me so I would not wake up in a pool of sweat in the morning.
My favorite ministry thus far is definitely the special needs school. I looooooove going there and seeing all the niños. We have been there two times and all the ones I played with the first time, they all remembered me. They are so accepting and just throw around kisses and hugs to everyone. It is seriously so warming to my heart. I am so thankful for this trip and what God has done and for what he still has to give to us here.
