High School Missions | A Summer to Brag About: Living National Geographic

Let’s be honest — anytime we hear the word Africa, we hear the opening theme of The Lion King playing in our head. Or the TV could be off but in our mind’s eye, scenes from shows on Animal Planet or the Travel Channel play.

What if you actually go to Africa — specifically Uganda, Kenya and Swaziland — and experience Africa for yourself?

Because it’s one thing to see the desert or a lush jungle-scape, and it’s quite another to feel the arid or moist air on you skin or the grainy sand or green grass below your flip-flopped feet.

It’s one thing to look at photos of a beautiful sunrise and it’s another for the sun to take your breath away as it sets against the clear, wide backdrop of the sky, which becomes the biggest canvas of stars you didn’t realize were so bright.

It’s one thing to watch a Range Rover commercial, and it’s another thing to ride in the back of a truck along an unpaved road, hair blown back by rushing wind generated by the drive.

It’s one thing to look at photos of the men holding what look like
spears, of women wearing necklaces stacked high, of the children’s
cute faces and it’s an entirely different thing to shake their hands, to
stand before them, to embrace and run after them. It’s another thing to see and hear for yourself the vibrant sights and sounds of people of all ages singing, dancing and worshiping God.

And if you can’t take our word for how awesome your summer will be if you choose to go on missions as an Ambassador, then let Peter Sewakiryanga of Kyampisi Childcare Ministries (KCM) in Uganda tell you:
We are looking forward to hosting the
Ambassador team… for the first time this coming summer. We
have hosted in the last two years, Real Life [now Passport, our college missions program] teams and we cannot
begin to tell you how much a blessing to have hosted them serving with
us in the community of Kyampisi…

We reach out to the
community of Kyampisi to empower families, evangelize, buildings homes
and visit hospitals and babies’ homes. The team will be staying at the
Jesus House, where we share meals and fellowship with KCM local staff
and volunteers. Volunteering with KCM means you will be exposing yourself [to] challenging work but rewarding for the Kingdom of God…
So… you start applying for your summer to brag about?
