You lucked out with getting the bottom bunk and have settled in nicely. You’re glad that your camp bff is in the bunk right next to you. You’ve come up with the best name for your camp small group.
You’ve planned your extracurricular activities. Maybe this will be the summer you’ll do the giant swing into the lake (but that tree looks kinda old and that rope is kinda thick and heavy…) or maybe do the zipline stuff again. You can literally go through the obstacle course blindfolded, both hands tied behind your back. If camp offered AP Origami, you’d do it, but this year, you’ll challenge yourself by making fifteen friendship bracelets – one for each of your BFFs.
Maybe this year, you’ll discover what the secret ingredient is in the sloppy joes; you’re still not sure if you ever liked this mystery spice. Babs the lunch lady says you’re her favorite so you know come Thursdays she’ll give you extra chicken fingers.
You’ve been going to summer camp ever since you broke into the double-digit age bracket. After the umpteenth time, do you ever get the sense that summer camps these days try too hard to impress and entertain you?
What if you were the one making an impression? What if you got a chance to step up and learn new skills on the mission field this summer – like being able to fall asleep in any setting (a bumpy bus ride) or using a squatty potty while keeping your clothes clean?
What if you made new friends who come from all over the U.S.? What if you actually got to camp out in a legit tent? What if instead of swimming in the pool, you got to wade into a river and watch someone get baptized?
What if your obstacle course this summer were tent cities in Haiti? What if you were the one to come up with a creative craft that will help you share the gospel to young and old and serve as a souvenir of God’s love?
What if you could take your palate and tastebuds on an adventure? Ever heard of cuy? Ever try mandazi? Do you wanna be able to say to your friends that you’ve tried authentic pad thai?
What if you got to be on the receiving end of sacrificial hospitality – all because you have something meaningful to share, because you are making an impact that’ll last for eternity.
What if you went on missions this summer with other 14-18 year olds? It’s not summer camp. But it’ll be real good.
