Buenas! We arrived in Guate City on September 6th. It was such a beautiful weather. But after a 4 hour drive, we finally arrived to Puerto Barrios and it was HUMID.
Our living situation is good — bunk beds and decent showers with occasional showering outside due to no electricity and too many girls going after 1 bathroom. But I LOVE it. I love not being in my comfort zone and living my life here in Puerto Barrios.
It’s only been more than a week but we have gone to many places. From all the places we’ve gone, I can give you word snapshots of what Puerto Barrios looks like to me. It’s been raining a few days but it didn’t stop us from going to an iglesia where I met the cutest little boy, Jaer who’s only 3 years old. He kept coming back to where I was sitting and the way he looked at me with those beautiful eyes melted me to the core. I just fell in love. I wanted to give him something, but I had none. The only thing I had was my ponytail but he hold on to it like it was his precious toy.
We went to a trash damp filled with filth, mud and gruesome stuff. The smell overwhelmed my senses. But when we were walking towards the pile of gunk, I saw a little girl with such a radiant smile. Her name is Analyn and she lives there. I just could not believe my eyes. She, along with her brothers, sister, cousins, just to name a few are living there. I asked her if there’s anything I could pray for her and she just asked blessings over her family and her house. And it hit me how selfish I’ve been. Because this little girl, who doesn’t have any according to the world standards, doesn’t ask anything for herself. Lord, how I long to have a heart like Analyn.
We also got the chance to go to the elderly home and got to meet some amazing people like Agustin and Jorge, who radiate the joy of the Lord. Their family doesn’t even visit them and the gesture they showed to us of how happy they were for strangers to visit them was just amazing.
Finally, we went to the public school on top of a hill. The view was just breathtaking. My eyes were gazed at the mountains and beautiful trees nearby. It was independence day and they had a big presentation for us to see. These beautiful children were singing and dancing. And that reminded me of just how much our Lord loves us, His beloved children.
I’m sitting outside our green house and it is HUMID. But I am ok. I love it. I love being here in Puerto Barrios.
