Hey Everyone,
This week I will write more than three sentences, I apologize for the shortness of my previous ones. So for a few weeks now, I have been really struggling with the aspect of God living in me and being present. I never really thought about this deeply or honestly really cared until being in here in Guatemala, through these weeks I just really yearned for a new relationship with my heavenly father; a deep, intimate and unending relationship. This week the lord just really showed me that he is present with me and in me. When our team and I went evangelizing with Pastor Mario and Pastor Ronnie to a community near the mountains we sang songs and had a little message shared. During this, I observed an old women walking from her home to come join us praising the lord. I noticed that she had tears in her eyes clenching her hands in much pain. Rubbing them as each word was sung in the song. Seeing this just broke my heart because I knew she was uncomfortable, and I wanted her to be pain free. When we all got the chance to pray over them at the end of the service, I went over to her and got down beside her and held her hands. I started praying with her that the lord would just take her pain away and he would be glorified from it. That god would be her healer and her comforter. As we prayed I could feel that god was with me and in my presence and from that I just knew that the lord was teaching me that he does live in me and that I am his child, but anyway we finished praying and I stood up and hugged her and kissed her on the cheek and we said our goodbyes. I found out later when a teammate asked about the pain in the elderly woman’s hands that she said her pain was greatly reduced and they were feeling better. My response was: all the glory to the lord now and forever. It opened my eyes to the fact the God is a living God not just a supernatural being I read in a book. Jesus said “stop doubting and believe.” I want to add another story that just happened Wednesday the 12th. Some of my teammates and I were going on a jog but we got so dang tired we separated from the group to explore the Guatemalan lands. Don’t worry because there were three of us. When we were hiking up hills and walking along paths, we see a beautiful mountain which of course we want to go to the top. We take a trail that would take us there and we followed that. Along the way we see three connecting houses on the side of the hill and the little children were waving and saying “Buenas!” which is short for saying hello or good day. We took a path to those houses and the family invited us to sit with them and chat awhile. I can’t describe the beauty that was surrounding us. I was in awe of God’s creation the entire journey. They were so friendly and they invited us to stay for supper but we had to go to church that night so we couldn’t. But they took us up through the house to where they grow sugar cane up on the hill. They chopped us some for the journey back. Then they asked us to pray for the grandfather who had pains in his stomach. One of my teammates interpreted that he said God told him that we were coming and he wanted us to pray for him. All three of us were just in awe. We all could feel that the lord was with us and he lead us there for a reason. We thought we were going for a jog but really God lead us to this family. They invited us back again soon and we hope to bring a surprise for them also. As I am writing this is just can’t describe Gods love and plans that he has for each one of us! He is so good. Thanks to all who take their time to read this and I hope you have a great rest of your day 🙂
Always,
Bekah Smoker
