“Random” Acts of Kindness

Hola!! 2nd week in Puerto Barrios!! So far, it’s been GOOD. The sun rises and scorches its heat whenever it pleases but we’ve had some occasional rains especially at night! Yay for showers in the rain! Honestly, I’ve been only getting showers every 2 days and man oh man.
But God has really blessed us abundantly. Everywhere we go he had set divine appointments for us with these genuine people. We got the chance to go back to the elderly home but because a lot of us have been sick, only a few of us were able to go. Still, it was so much fun! We sang and dance and played games with them and this time, I got the chance to talk to Jorge (George in English is what he always says =p). By far, he is the happiest man in that elderly home. Yet, when he started talking about his life, he doesn’t even have a family to come visit him. He was never married but fell in love when he was 20 to a woman he got the chance to be with for four short years. He is now 76 and is counting the years until he reaches 100. Before we left, I read him Psalm 23 and I Corinthians 13 in espanol and his face lit up and called me his “favorita”. He told me next time we come visit that he would have his notebook and pen ready so that he could learn more English and he would teach me Spanish. He also is my “favorito”.
We also got to go back to the dump and I got to see Analyn and her sister again. They were so full of joy and laughter. But God showed me a different side of that dump. The area is an enormous land filled with trash. Me and some other girls went further down the road where houses are built from the trash they collect themselves. The odor got worse, the roads got muddier and the scene just got more devastating. As we started praying, holding on to each other, God just broke me at that very moment. But even in the midst of all that He whispered, “I AM GOOD.” The girls and I met a lady named Naomi who’s been working at the dump for 15 years. As we got to know her more, her joy was so overwhelming. She has 3 kids ages 13, 7 and 1. When we asked her if there’s anything we could give her for when we come back, she only asked for sapatos (shoes) and ropas (clothes) for her children. What a woman of God!
On Sunday morning, Erika, one of our members got baptized!! Whoo hoo! The waterfall was breathtaking. I surely want to go back! That night, we went to the church we’ve been going to the past few weeks and it’s very typical here to have service at night. By the way, these people know how to bust a move up front during worship! Men, women, boys, girls, and even this grandma who is so cute are worshipping God in spirit and in truth! Makes you want to dance, and sing and shout the name of Jesus. That night also, I got to see Jaer again!!! (mi novio, hahah) When he saw me, he gave me the biggest kiss and hug!! He gave me his ring and wanted to give me his necklace as well which had a picture of Jesus and when I pointed it, He knew. All of a sudden, he pulled me closer and whispered to me, “I love you with all my heart.” I went crazy!! This little boy whom most of the time I didn’t know what he was saying said those words to me!!!
I could go on and on and also tell you about our prayer walks, which have been amazing!! But all that is to say, it’s been a privilege to be the hands and feet of our sweet Jesus here. I could not show any more kindness towards my brothers and sisters if it were not for Christ living inside of me. Because of Him, I have prayed, held hands, hugged, kissed, gave gifts and my time to His children. And I am willing to do much more because of Him who strengthens me.
