Hello Everybody! I hope all is well in your lives! Life in Cambodia is awesome! This past week we got back into ministry and back on a schedule which has been great!
I just wanted to share a story that has been in the making ever since our first day of English classes.
The first official week of ministry I found myself along with my teammates Kori and Emily teaching an elementary English class in the morning. The class consists of one hour of English and thirty minutes of bible.
I explained in an earlier blog that I got to be part of a group who shared the gospel for the first time to some young adults who had never heard about it. I was astonished when I realized that there are still people out there who have never heard the gospel and it was amazing because I knew in the moment that God was speaking through us.
It was probably one of the most incredible things I have ever witnessed. In my previous blog I wrote “While my teammate spoke, I continued to pray that God would give us the words that he wanted us to speak and not just what we thought they should know. Then I got the chance to tell them how Jesus not only died for our sins so we could be forgiven, but he rose from the dead. At that moment I felt power in my words and I felt God speaking through me.“
We explained how this is history and not just so made up fairytale we were told as children.
Since then God has continually been working in that classroom every single day. After that day we didn’t have classes for a week because of a holiday so the only thing we could do is pray that God was using the holiday for them to really think about what we had shared with them.
This past Monday was our first day back to classes. The previous night was a night of rain, A LOT of rain. It had down poured all night and the rain continued on during the morning. As we arrived we wondered whether or not we would even get any students that day.
9:20 rolled around and I was excited to see one of our students Vy Lina walk in. Vy Lina had been coming to our class since the second day. She is 31 years old and she also takes computer classes that the center provides. While we were sitting and waiting for class to start our contact, Sotthea asked her if she was a Christian and she surprised us when she answered yes. After that we proceeded to start class and then the time came for our bible portion.
After her stating that she was a Christian, Kori proceeded to have some girl talk time with her since she was the only student. Kori asked her when she became a Christian and she said when we shared the gospel with her the week before. Vy Lina then told Kori she had thought in order to take our English classes she had to be a Christian. She then told us she believes in all gods and was forced into Buddhism while growing up. Kori first explained how she could take our classes even if she wasn’t a Christian and that we were not there to pressure her into anything. She also began to start explaining how to be a Christian you can’t follow anyone but Jesus. We told her we just wanted to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ. Then our translator Seang shared some of his testimony to her which was really cool. I knew after having that conversation with Vy Lina that God brought the downpour just so that we could share everything that we shared with her that day.
The story doesn’t end there. A few days after that Emily was sharing how the bible is a series of letters handed down. Letters that are actual written accounts from witnesses who saw Jesus and all he did. Then at the end of class Kori mentioned if the people in the class wanted bibles, we had some. Then Kori proceeded to leave the room. After Kori left they all asked Emily if they could have bibles. PRAISE GOD! They waited an extra ten minutes so our translator Seang could tell them what they should read. He told them John or Luke was a good place to start. Is that a God thing or what?!?
The next day, eager to see if anyone read the bible, Kori asked if they had any questions about anything they read. Low and behold Vy Lina had a few questions that day and Kori was able to answer them. The next day in class she had another question about why in the old testament people had to give sacrifices and why we don’t have to give sacrifices now. Every day God continues to show up in bigger ways and I am so excited for the weeks to come because I know God is going to move mountains in that classroom! So, just a praise God story that I wanted to share this week. I will continue to update you on the happenings in our morning Elementary English class!
Until then please continue praying!
Pray that God will use us and speak through us into these adults lives.
Pray that God will soften their hearts and open them up to the gospel.
Pray for wisdom and discernment for our team, that when sharing the gospel, it will not be our words but Gods.
Pray for salvation of the students in our class; Sotthea(our student not our contact),Channy, Vy Lina, Chanty, Tula, Bros, Chandy, and all the others students that may come.
This is a picture of the White board in our class after explaining sacrifices!
In Cambodia, Hungry for more ministry and more of God!
Much Love!!
