There have been many low key mornings here in Guatemala before we go out and do afternoon ministry. There was one morning our leaders asked us to spend 3 hours with the Lord before lunch. I spent my time, praying over the different ministries my team is involved in. I busted out my ipod and put on some good ol' worship music to the one and only JC. My prayers for the ministries were the song lyrics of different songs. The song God of this City by Chris Tomlin was my prayer for the people of Puerto Barrios. There were many other songs I came across Tear Down the Walls, Take Heart and Everyone Needs a Little for the orphans, the elderly people, the kids at the children's hospital, the people living at the dump and the prostitutes.
After listening to these songs something sparked in me to search for a certain song. The Holy Spirit guided me through my shuffled songs and I came across the song The House of God Forever by Jon Foreman a song about Psalm 23. When I stumbled across it I knew it was the one I was looking for, it became my prayer for the prostitutes we were going to be working with later that day. At the time I was not fully clear to why the Holy Spirit led me to song but nonetheless I responded to the call and prayed this song over the women we were going to come in contact with that afternoon.
Walking into the different bars, sitting and talking with different women was very challenging. First off there is the language barrier which is always a struggle, but the biggest challenge of this ministry is seeing the broken women who are chained by the bondage of slavery. Through all this darkness God is not overcome by it, he shines his light in the darkness. The Lord is true and faithful to his promises he gives us. Earlier when he revealed the song The House of God Forever to me he used it for his glory. In one of the bars we went to 2 other girls from my team and I sat down with a lady in the bar, after talking to her for not even a minute she asked if we were going to be praying for her, after responding yes to her she asked us to read Scripture to her. The girls from my team wanted to read Psalm 23 to her, that was no coincidence. He used the song that was about Psalm 23 this morning to be my prayer over these women stuck in bondage and to know that they are not to far gone from the Lord. In such darkness God shined His light and used my team to bring Glory to his name. My prayer for these woman is to trust in the Lord and his power to break the chains in these women's lives and that they can come to know the Lord to Dwell in the House of God Forever.
Psalm 23
"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul, He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and i will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
