The women are usually in their rooms by dark
This week I’ve felt a heaviness and brokenness for the women and children that I’ve been living with and the Cambodian people that I’ve seen during our travel.
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4: 22-24
These women who I live in community with have been used and abused in ways I will never fully understand. This week, their stories have started to spill out little by little. Some stories are shown right on their faces, physical harm and scars left to give us a hint towards what they may have been through. Some stories are hidden behind a beautiful face and joyful smile. Their individual stories are real, and they are crazy.
I am eating breakfast with a woman who was so harmed by drugs and abuse she will not be able to take care of her baby within the next few weeks.
I am sitting on a swing with a little girl who doesn’t have any family.
I am teaching English to a woman who was sold into sex slavery by her mother and father.
I am sitting outside in the dark with a woman with scars from abuse who is crying wanting to pray to Jesus.
We are face to face with women who have risked their lives, escaped brothels, and women who have been rescued from this pit of darkness.
I discovered burns that are still healing while I was painting nails. Some women were just rescued and have been here for 3 weeks, others have been here for almost a year. I realized the length of time is irrelevant; they are still healing physically and emotionally.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim FREEDOM for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.
Isaiah 61
“Daughter your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” Luke 8:48
I am learning what true freedom means for each and every one of these women as they share their stories. They are not held captive by the chains that they once were, they are free. That is a BEAUTIFUL thing.
My time here in Cambodia is dedicated to give them a glimpse of what true freedom really means, freedom in Christ.
“You are loved SISTA, you are FREE”
