July 20-22 were three of the most beautiful, faith-growing, amazing, incredible, remarkable, astounding, unbelievable, and miraculous days of my life. On July 20th, our team leaders informed us that we would be heading out on a Luke 10 Journey. What is a Luke 10 journey you may ask? A Luke 10 journey is modeled after how the Lord sent out His disciples: without food, without money, and without a place to stay. I encourage you to read about it for yourself in Luke 10:1-12 and Matthew 10:1-23.
So with Luke 10 in mind, the fourteen of us split into four groups and headed in all different directions of Guatemala. In addition to asking for protection and provision, each team prayed earnestly to be led in a certain direction or towards a certain town. Once each team discerned where the Lord was pulling them, it was time to make that vision a reality. Without money or anything to offer, I thought that getting to our destination, or any destination outside of Panajachel, would be nearly impossible. Boy, was I wrong!
The Lord provided absolutely everything that we needed. We were blessed with delicious food, safe and secure transportation, money to be used for ourselves and to bless others with, and a safe place to rest our heads each night. I cannot describe to you how blessed my team felt throughout the entire trip. We met amazing people throughout our journey: some who we blessed, and many more who blessed us. God is so good.
I wish that I could blog about each and every single thing that happened during our three day adventure, but if I did that, you’d be reading for hours and I wouldn’t have anything to tell you once I get home! But I do want to share my pre-trip feelings and the story of our first blessing…
Like most of you know, I am the type of person who likes to have control of situations and would prefer to take the safe road instead of the unbeaten path. So when I heard that we’d be doing a Luke 10 journey, I just about had a heart attack. Were my leaders crazy? How could they send me into a situation where I literally had NO control over anything? Well, it just so happened that being put in a situation where all I had was faith was exactly what I needed to genuinely let the Lord take full control of my life.
After shedding a few tears as we departed, Edith, Megan, Darren, and I gathered to pray over our trip and discern where we were being called. We came to the conclusion that we were supposed to just hop onto a chicken bus and see how far we could go. But you see, you don’t just hop onto any old chicken bus without money. A trip to Sololá, a close neighboring town, alone costs 3 Quetzales per person; so as a group of 4 we should have had to pay 12 Quetzales just to get to the closest neighboring town. Thank goodness the Lord is faithful and always provides. The first bus driver that we approached and explained our situation to gladly let us onto his bus, free of charge. Needless to say, I was flabbergasted. This first blessing from the Lord blew my mind away; and I am thrilled to say that this first blessing, though very significant, was the smallest of the blessings we received. But you’ll just have to wait until I get home to hear about the rest!
