Just Another Night in Thailand

While in Thailand June 2014, Tameka Rish’s heart broke for those she met in the Red Light District. The stories she heard inspired her to write this poem. Adventures returns to Thailand in November to share the hope and love of Jesus Christ. We will continue the work begun by teams past through prayer walking and living intentionally in the heart of Bangkok. To sign up or find out more, visit our website.   Broken by: Tameka Rish   She pulls on the few clothes she’s provided.Applies her make up to cover all she is...

Not Your Typical Summer Vacation

For the typical college student, summer is a time to sit back and relax. Classes are over for the semester, usually concluding the end of a school year. Time to put in a few more hours at work and spend the days finding adventure, vacationing with family or friends, sleeping in, and staying up late. Cameron Shelton’s summer was very different than the typical college student’s. Instead of sleeping in, he woke early to roosters and cattle announcing the break of day. Instead of a blazing sun and endless blue skies, he lived through another winter, this one in the Southern...

Thy Kingdom Come: Praying God’s Will of Freedom

On our short-term trips, our participants experience new cultures and some incredible things as people are healed, released from bondage, and experience the love of God for the very first time. On a summer trip to Haiti, a team witnessed a woman receive freedom from years of spiritual bondage. Project Leader Dayna Bickham shares what can happen because of just one prayer.   Haiti is a nation ripe with harvest. It is also a nation that has been steeped in darkness and voodoo for centuries.  Yet, we are not afraid of the dark. After all we bear the Light and when the light...

Over the next three months, five teams will be doing ministry in India, Thailand, Peru, Nicaragua, and on an African Expedition serving in South Africa, Mozambique, and Swaziland. “I’m Leaving Now. I’m Going to Lunch.”

Adventures in Missions staff Connie Rock leads Adult missions trips to Thailand and Cambodia. She shares how God uses prayer walking to impact those around her teams:   First, there were the 3 Men Who Walked into a Bar in Thailand.     Then there was the man in Cambodia who backed himself right off the bench while acting all casual (and literally fell onto the pavement).     The man who was ridden with guilt and covered his face when we drove by … as other men glared at us.       The man who walked a woman back to a hotel....

Generational Impact: An Encouragement to Answer the Call

We’ve said it from the beginning — our desire at Adventures is to mobilize a generation, to call forth a people who love and serve the Lord and want to help build his kingdom here on earth. It’s easy to believe the call doesn’t apply to you. You might hear stories of the incredible things happening through the participants on Adventures trips or the World Race, but you think, “I could never do something like that. God couldn’t ever use me in that way.” We’re here to tell you that’s not true. God can use whomever he wants to do whatever...

Where None Would Dare to Trod

When our trip participants go out on the field, they see and experience some horrifying things taking place abroad. For our summer Passport team in Guatemala, they witnessed the evils of human trafficking first hand. Sarah DeLoach shares how they still found hope in the midst of the horror. ———- Coming into the last week of our time in Guatemala, our team as a whole prayed the Lord would lead us into more than we could ever imagine and give us what we needed to finish strong. Wednesday morning rolled around and we began with the task of evangelizing to the prostitutes...

Announcing New 2015 Short-Term Mission Trips

“Therefore, go and make disciples.” As follower of Christ, going is a command, not an option. Christ’s final words before he left this earth were a command for us to go into the world and share the gospel with those who don’t know him. Going looks different for every person, but we’re all supposed to do it. It doesn’t always mean picking up your life and moving halfway across the world. Sometimes it means sharing God’s love with the barista at Starbucks or your neighbor down the street. If going for you means a short term mission trip, we can help...

Why You Should Give Santa Your Change

Our short-term summer trips work with variety of different ministries, depending on the location. On a recent youth trip to New York City, our participants worked with the Salvation Army. Project Leader Ashley Bass shares a bit about what she learned on the trip and how it’s changed her perspective on the people in Santa suits around the holidays. ———- Founded in 1865, the Salvation Army is one of the nation’s oldest and most well-known non-profit organizations. They have thrift stores in several locations worldwide and are famous for their Santa’s that...

Reflections

In less than two days I will be leaving Puerto Barrios, Guatemala to start my journey home. My two months is almost over. Part of me is excited and ready to go home, the other part of me is not ready to leave all the wonderful people I have met. I have learned so much here in Guatemala, about myself, about God, and about random other things. It would take days to share everything I have learned (and a longer blog post than anyone wants to read), so I am going to share just a few things that Guatemala has taught me and a few things that God has taught me.      Things I have...

Where None Would Dare to Trod

Coming into the last week of our time in Guatemala our team as a whole prayed that The Lord would lead us into more than we could ever imagine. We had asked The Lord to give us what we needed to finish strong. Wednesday morning rolled around and we began at 9:30 am with the task ahead being evangelism for the prostitutes living and working in the local bars and brothels. We walked down the street towards the hub of the area surrounded by the fumes of the city while the sun beat down relentlessly on our skin- we marched to the trenches. We split into groups of five to cover a larger area and...

When Life Give Ya Tarantulas

A few days ago, I held a tarantula: a real live, palm-sized, poisonous, hairy tarantula. As my team and I hiked through the ancient Mayan ruins on our free day last Monday, we came across this little Guatemalan man casually taking his pet tarantula for a stroll. He asked our group if anyone wanted to hold it, but warned us that if the tarantula felt our blood pressure spike from fear, it may bite! So naturally, I grabbed the tarantula right out of his hands without a second thought. As the little monster began spinning a web between my fingers, I though to myself, “if I was scared...
