ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS

We are never to young to serve. Those words went through my mind as I was packing my bags to go to Guatemala. After three days of training it is clear how evident and true these words are. The way of expression and of praise for the God is so heart warming, that tears of joy can easily be seen and felt. People are shouting, singing, and roaring with assurance that God will take care of them. All shackles and chains that try to hold us back are easily broken. Each of these men and women are of courage strength and obedience. I have never felt so alive and having the Holy Spirit in me is...

¡Campo de Entrenamiento!

Friday we arrived at Toccoa Falls College with no clue of the adventures we would experience before we flew out. We’ve learned to face the unexpected and face everything with stride and encouragement from each other.   Our training consists of witnessing to foreign remote tribes (our team leaders are such great actors/actresses!), building our own tent out of rope and tarps and spending the night in them, dancing…learning “the Wobble”, and sessions about survival in our countries.   This time has not only tested my physical limits but it has been a...

“…and his sheep follow him because they know his voice”

In preparation for this trip I, in all honesty, didn’t give much thought to training camp.  I was quite focused on the “main event” of spending seven weeks in a country halfway across the world and the excitement of traveling to get there.  But I am so thankful that we did not immediately load up on June 1st and head to Cambodia–I am so thankful for these past four days of seeking the Lord, cleansing my heart, surrendering my will, and most of all learning to listen to His Spirit.   In John 10 Jesus talks about how God is our shepherd and He knows every single one...

Chisel Away My Fears

Training camp.  I really wasn't sure what to expect at all. I didn't know what it would be like to meet the girls on my team or what we would be doing for the next four days.  As it turns out, all the girls on my team and my leader are incredibly lovely.  As for what we would be doing..we have: – Tried to communicate to leaders while they are speaking a tribal language.  – Had a dance off – Made a tent in a field out of two tarps and some rope.  And then sleeping in it. And only being allowed to bring three things. We have also had...

It’s Different, But It’s Comfortable

You know that spiritual high you get at church camp? The one that sticks around for a few weeks then you’re left with nothing but a countdown until next summer. Training camp is nothing like that. We all arrived after a day of goodbyes, airports, and a long, sweaty, 2 hour, 3 bottoms in a seat bus ride. Feasted like there was no tomorrow (cafeteria food is always the best), jumped right in, and haven’t stopped running since. All-group worship sessions are entirely God’s. People are shouting, dancing, crying, jumping, singing, praying, clapping- however you could think to...

Green Creme and Other Things to Know Before You go to Cambodia

1. Matt Damon in “We Bought A Zoo” said to his son when he wanted to talk to a girl that, “sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage.” You have to just go for it sometimes.  2. “Green Creme” is the Fanta of choice. Flavor: well see about that in a couple of days.  3. Average age of a Cambodian is 21. The generation above them does not exist. It was completely wiped out by the Khmer Rouge.  4. You have to make the choice between what is RIGHT and what is EASY.  5. Being obedient is more important than being eloquent.  6. Jimmy, camp...

So It begins

Warning! The following blog could possibly make absolutely no sense because I simply have so much going on in my head right now that there is no way I can piece it all together and make any sort of sense, so Im sorry in advance. At training camp I was blown away by God. I was not looking forward to training camp at all, I was ready to go go go to Guatemala, But wow already I have learned so much about myself and all of Gods crazy love. Its amazing to be completely surrounded by people who love unconditionally , who don't care about how others view them and just want to love people...

“I’m Sorry, You Want Us To Do What?”

This is my first official blog I’ve ever done. But I figure my trip to Cambodia is a pretty good time to start.  My team – which is made up of 7 amazing girls who are totally in love with the Lord – and I have yet to actually leave for Cambodia, as we’ve been at an intense training camp in Toccoa, Georgia, the past three days. Upon arrival at training camp, I have to admit I was a little nervous, okay a lot nervous about not knowing a single person here, leaving behind my family, friends, and the comforts of things like a bed that I take for granted, and just...

petrichor of a different kind

Petrichor is the smell of rain on dry earth. While at camp, I’ve realized that I’ve experienced a different kind of petrichor in my life recently. Life has been weird and hard and while not always dry, it’s been…a hard season. And getting prepared for Cambodia has been like the coming of the rain, the preparation. My time at training has been that first rain, and after the rain has cleared you can smell the difference in the air, leaving everything clean, damp, malleable, and freshened. Thats what this week has been for me. Today, after the rainfall last night both...

When God Speaks!

God is so amazing that he chooses to speak to his children. He speaks in countless ways, perfectly to each individual. Until this trip, honestly I did not explore other ways God can speak besides scripture. Sunday night of training camp we began with, where everyone closed there eyes and one person would be chosen to have words spoken over them. This is a completely anomouyus exercise. I was chosen first and although many of the girls were from my team, God spoke through them to provide comfort and encourangment. I heard “you are exactly where you are suppose to be” and ”...

You are worthy.

I wanted to start off with telling a story of my plane ride here to Atlanta, where my journey has begun.  As I walked on the plane, there was a little girl sitting in my seat, she obviously wanted the window. I was okay with that 🙂 Her eyes lit up when I assume that she realized the stranger sitting next to her was a small girl instead of a large hairy man.  Her name was Kayla, she had dark hair and dark eyes and was all of 8 years old.  She asked me why I had tennis shoes strapped to my bag, I told her I was going on an adventure. She wanted to come but I told her no...

Discomfort causes Growth

God is moving and working in my life in ways where I don't feel like the same person and its only been 3 days of training.  Arriving at training camp was a bit overwhelming at first and out of my comfort zone, but slowly over time God has been revealing to me that with discomfort brings growth.  One activity that we did that stretched me in faith was a surrender activity we did.  We had to get a log and write down on the log the things we needed to surrender to God, after praying and letting God reveal to me the things I needed to surrender to become close to Him was...
