It’s almost here!

This has probably been the most exhausting week of my life, but in such a good way. This week was focused on connecting with our team but also connecting with the Lord as we prepare to spend our summer serving Him and His children. In less than 24 hours we will be landing in Guatemala City, it's hard to believe that all of the waiting is almost over and only a 4 hour plane ride and 6 hour bus ride seperates us from our home for the next 2 months.  I am 100% confident that God has placed each person on our team for a specific reason and that we all are going to make...

Becoming Completely Free in the Freedom of Christ!

Today is the last day of training camp before we leave for Puerto Barrios. We have been requested to blog our journey through Guatemala this summer. I am not a writer or a blogger but I'll do my best! Monday my team arrived at Toccoa Falls College for a week a training camp before we head out of the country. There have been many team bonding activities and a lot of focus has been placed on getting all of us out of our spiritual comfort zones. For me, it as been a week of spiritual stretching and constantly being placed out of my comfort zone. God has opened my eyes to so many different...

Gotta love training camp

Training camp…. I had no idea what to expect when I first got here, but I have to say, it's been a wild ride already. It's just so amazing to see how God brought people from all over the country together to spread his word and to "raise an army of love", something that we've been talking about throughout our sessions. Even though I was nervous, I am so blessed by God to be on the team I'm on. Everyone has so many strengths and wonderful qualities that I am so excited to get to know them even more over the next two months. Now…more about training...

Training Camp

Today's the last day of training camp! We leave tomorrow morning out of ATL and will be flying into Guatemala City around 11am mountain time. From there we have a 6ish hour drive to Puerto Barrios. These past few days have been filled with team bonding, worship, teaching, camping outside, hiking to a waterfall, and speaking life over people! It's been such a wonderful experience and I'm actually grateful for having training camp. I was pretty apprehensive beforehand because the last thing I wanted to do was go to training camp. Anyway, it's time to get this adventure on...

training camp sayy whaattt??

Picture this. 200 college aged students in Atlanta Georgia for a training camp, preparing us for missions all over the world. What comes to mind? Nazi "holier than thou"snobs telling you how much of a sinner you are. Maybe a hippie like love fest. These were only a few of the ideas scrollig through my mind. When we arrived one of the first things we did was worship. So all 200 of us piled into the sanctuary. Not knowing what to expect. As we stood up to worship one of the speakers for our camp told us how Adventures in Missions encourages us to worship. All he said was FREELY. If...

You Are All We Need

Today is the final day of training camp.  Everything ha sprogressed so much since that first slightly awkward team dinner.  Everyone on my team agrees that it feels like we have been here for over a week. We have been learning a ton of different things about worship, freedom, listening, and how not to hate each other for the next 2 months.  Most of our team walked to a sweet waterfall here at Toccoa Falls college this afternoon and had some great bonding time. Our leader Grayson slid down a rock into a hole in the waterfall pool, which was pretty funny. We are leaving...

“…and his sheep follow him because they know his voice”

In preparation for this trip I, in all honesty, didn’t give much thought to training camp.  I was quite focused on the “main event” of spending seven weeks in a country halfway across the world and the excitement of traveling to get there.  But I am so thankful that we did not immediately load up on June 1st and head to Cambodia–I am so thankful for these past four days of seeking the Lord, cleansing my heart, surrendering my will, and most of all learning to listen to His Spirit.   In John 10 Jesus talks about how God is our shepherd and He knows every single one...

Chisel Away My Fears

Training camp.  I really wasn't sure what to expect at all. I didn't know what it would be like to meet the girls on my team or what we would be doing for the next four days.  As it turns out, all the girls on my team and my leader are incredibly lovely.  As for what we would be doing..we have: – Tried to communicate to leaders while they are speaking a tribal language.  – Had a dance off – Made a tent in a field out of two tarps and some rope.  And then sleeping in it. And only being allowed to bring three things. We have also had...

Green Creme and Other Things to Know Before You go to Cambodia

1. Matt Damon in “We Bought A Zoo” said to his son when he wanted to talk to a girl that, “sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage.” You have to just go for it sometimes.  2. “Green Creme” is the Fanta of choice. Flavor: well see about that in a couple of days.  3. Average age of a Cambodian is 21. The generation above them does not exist. It was completely wiped out by the Khmer Rouge.  4. You have to make the choice between what is RIGHT and what is EASY.  5. Being obedient is more important than being eloquent.  6. Jimmy, camp...

“I’m Sorry, You Want Us To Do What?”

This is my first official blog I’ve ever done. But I figure my trip to Cambodia is a pretty good time to start.  My team – which is made up of 7 amazing girls who are totally in love with the Lord – and I have yet to actually leave for Cambodia, as we’ve been at an intense training camp in Toccoa, Georgia, the past three days. Upon arrival at training camp, I have to admit I was a little nervous, okay a lot nervous about not knowing a single person here, leaving behind my family, friends, and the comforts of things like a bed that I take for granted, and just...

petrichor of a different kind

Petrichor is the smell of rain on dry earth. While at camp, I’ve realized that I’ve experienced a different kind of petrichor in my life recently. Life has been weird and hard and while not always dry, it’s been…a hard season. And getting prepared for Cambodia has been like the coming of the rain, the preparation. My time at training has been that first rain, and after the rain has cleared you can smell the difference in the air, leaving everything clean, damp, malleable, and freshened. Thats what this week has been for me. Today, after the rainfall last night both...

When God Speaks!

God is so amazing that he chooses to speak to his children. He speaks in countless ways, perfectly to each individual. Until this trip, honestly I did not explore other ways God can speak besides scripture. Sunday night of training camp we began with, where everyone closed there eyes and one person would be chosen to have words spoken over them. This is a completely anomouyus exercise. I was chosen first and although many of the girls were from my team, God spoke through them to provide comfort and encourangment. I heard “you are exactly where you are suppose to be” and ”...
