the legacy of prayer

So I realize it has been quite some time since I have blogged, so ill do my best to sum up the past month. My time here in Guatemala has been such a growing experience. We truly do experience the “highest of the highest” and the “lowest of the lowest” while on the mission field. The beginning of our ministry had to do with a lot of intercessory prayer walks and door to evangelism and individual prayer. When first arriving in Puerto Barrios we soon realized that it was a spiritually dark place in which prayer was a major tool used in the ministry here. The Lord has...

Worrying and Complaining… no más!

I was unsure of what to blog about this week. If you read my other blogs, you already have a feel for what ministry looks like here. I don't want to bore you with my emotional states the past few days or say the same thing I did last week, so this week I decided to write about what I have been learning, both about myself and about my God. God has convicted me of two things this week: complaining and worrying. I know that the Bible specifically says not to complain and worry, but for me, it is so unnatural not to do those things, especially when it comes to worrying. Sunday was a...

World Racer Launching from Catalyst Conference: Be Present

Yesterday, Brandon Boyd, of the October 2011 World Race, flew from LAX to ATL. From the airport, he headed straight to this year’s Catalyst Conference where he spent two hours meeting and greeting folks (did any of you get to meet him?). This morning, Brandon takes the stage at Gwinnett Arena before the thousands of future leaders.  He will join the rest of the squad, who begins their Race in Guatemala. I’ll be on the stage talking about the World Race, my story of redemption, and how they have become one.  I have been straying from...

Caught in the Crosshairs

Last week, our team visited the children’s hospital twice: once to pray and once to put on a special program for the Dia de los Ninos (day of the children). The children’s hospital in Puerto Barrios is one of two in the whole country, so people come from all around for treatment of their precious ones. The first time we went, I wandered around from room to room with a small group, praying for the mamas and their babies, using my meager Spanish to inquire what had happened or what they were sick with, and encouraging them with a smile or a quiet song. Yesterday, I had a little...

More of HIM less of me….

Hello everyone. So this week in Cambodia was pretty amazing, so fasten your seat-belts and get comfortable. I have always believed in people hearing from God in visions and him also speaking to them right away when they pray, but it was never something I was really gifted in. Our team always does something called "feedback" everyday. It's basically just an encouragement time speaking truth into our teammates. This week we did feedback a little different. Our leaders challenged us to pray for the person to our right and give them an encouraging word that God had...

Redefining the orphan

On Monday we went to an orphanage out in the sticks.  Though, I think ‘out in the sewage’ would be a more accurate phrase.  Because of the rain, the orphanage turned into an island surrounded by nasty standing water shin deep.  The outdoor bathrooms had flooded, causing the bathroom water to spill in with the flood water.  Further, the backyard of the orphanage is a small farm with dogs, pigs, chickens, geese, and other animals that poop.  This all melded into one in the water.  We just hiked up our pants and trudged through it, motivating...

A Day of Affirmation and Realization

This week has been a week full of laughs, home sickness, realizations, and a week of affirmation. It has been a holiday all over Cambodia this week so we haven’t had normal ministry this week. Everyone goes home for holiday so most of the girls at the center are gone and classes are cancelled until Monday. So instead of doing our usual classes on Monday we visited an orphanage that we may be working with in the next few weeks during our free time. We spent a some time there with a few of the kids, playing duck ,duck, goose and musical chairs. Which by the way we owe the orphanage...

Diving Into Bottomless Waters!

Hi guys! What a week! This past week was a holiday for Cambodia so my team and I didn’t teach at the center and instead got to visit and experience some other local ministries and have some amazing and stretching “team time.” The first ministry we visited was a small and poor orphanage run by an amazing older couple. There were about eight kids and teenagers there and we had a blast playing games with them and getting them to laugh and smile. Pray for God to miraculously provide for them and pray that they would come to know and love God as Father. Pictures are...

Tweezing.

Due to the Cambodian holiday this past week, we had to put a slight pause on our ministry, which provided some intense downtime. We were able go to an orphanage called the RAPHA house, where 60 -100 girls ranging from 7 to 15 in age, are rescued from sex-trafficking. Not only is a shelter and food provided for these girls, but they are able to attend English classes, learn a specific trade and speak with a counselor whenever the need arises. The young women are allowed to stay at the center for up to two years; at the two year mark they are sent into a halfway home, where they can stay for...

Nothing to Lose

The whole country of Cambodia went on holiday this week.  Woo hoo.  That means my team didn’t really have any ministry to do.  As a result, I’ve spent the whole week reflecting. Oh, the joys of reflecting.  After several days of gruesome wrestling and struggling and searching, I finally feel at peace. It all started when I asked God what He wants from me specifically on this trip.  There is so much to be done here—we have five weeks of English classes to teach in Battambang, then a month of working at an orphanage in Phnom Penh.  After much...

Demanding Results

This past week was a Cambodian holiday. Everyone that is able to leaves their schools and jobs and returns to their villages and families for the week. Due to the holiday, most of the girls at TransformAsia left the center, and our classes were postponed until next week. So this week, instead of teaching English and Bible classes, we visited an orphanage and a place called Rapha House, which is a home for girls who have been rescued out of the most intense sex-trafficking cases. Rapha House provides these girls with a home, trade training, counseling, lawyers, and resources they will need...

Choosing Victory

Well, this week presented plenty of new and exciting experiences due to a little something people from Cambodia call their National Holiday.  It turns out that this is a week long holiday when everyone returns to their “homeland” to be with their families.  Most shops and markets close down and many of the women and children at TransformAsia were not around, which created a different looking week for me and my team.   We visited Foursquare Orphanage where we played games and visited with the kids and the pastor there.  We were introduced to this orphanage...
