The other night we went to do prostitute ministries in the bar. Before going we were warned of the possible dangers and to be completely honest it got me pumped. Yes I have an adventurous spirit, but im not the type of idot that would take unnecessary risks in order to partake in one. Its not that im the kind of person that will just randomly fling myself into risky situations, but the idea of putting myself in possible danger in order to share the love of Christ is awesome. The idea of risking and putting it all on the line to do the Lord’s work is amazing.
Before leaving for this ministry we were informed of what me might encounter. Dangerous drunk men in the bars, exotic dancing and porn being displayed in some of the bars. Knowing what we were getting ourselves into I really took the time to prepare myself through prayer. To pray for protection, for hearts to be opened, and focus when numerous distractions are being viciously thrown towards us. On the van ride to the bars we all spent time in intercessory prayer and worship, it felt as if we were going into battle.
When we got into town we broke off into groups in which us girls only would enter the bars while the men would remain outside and pray. For the men to enter into a bar it would discredit them as missionaries due to the strict culture, but if we were to get in a hairy situation they would be there to come in and grab us.
Throughout the evening I had the opportunity to talk and pray with about roughly 15 women. It still amazes me how open and accepting they are towards prayer. One of the girls I prayed with was only 17 years old.
It was evident that God answered my prayer. While being there my eyes were protected from many of the distractions and my focus was so strongly drawn on these women and why we were there. It was an amazing opportunity to love these women where they were at. To not cast judgment on them, but rather let them know that they are beloved daughters of Christ.
Well that’s just a vignette into what my time here in Guatemala is like. More or less through the good times and the bad, Im learning a lot. Love you all
