Las lagrimas de una abuela

Daily ministry can be a roller coaster of experiences. A couple of days ago we went to a children’s hospital to sing songs, share Bible stories and dramas, and just try to spread love. Although it is hard to see children suffering, the part that broke my heart the most was as we were leaving.

Walking out of the hospital, we immediately saw and heard a woman sitting on the ledge across from us weeping.  Our ministry contact and I went over to talk to her and pray with her. As we listened, we found out that her 4-day-old granddaughter was critically ill and in intensive care. While we prayed for her, I was overwhelmed with emotion and a sense of helplessness. My heart broke with hers and “all” we could do was pray.

As I processed this experience, I was reminded that the things we think are “little” are actually quite important. Pouring out Jesus love to those who are struggling and hurting is powerful. Prayers are also incredibly powerful as God can do more than we could ever ask or IMAGINE.  Although I can’t take away the pain of those suffering like this abuela, I can be Jesus’ hands and feet in her life.

Now for a more general update. Our days are incredibly busy, we typically do a different ministry each day (or a couple) and when we aren’t gone, we are preparing for ministry or having team time. It can be quite draining! Here are some ministries we have done.
We spent time at a retirement home singing and just talking with the residents. They love to share stories and talk.

We were also able to go to a school, which was quite fantastic! The kids were incredibly enthusiastic and just soak up any attention we give them.

We also spend lots of time praying for people in our neighborhood, in markets and many other places.

My Spanish is growing a lot. I didn’t expect to be someone who is looked to for Spanish ability (especially cause I wasn’t very confident going in), but as I am one of the few people with the “most” Spanish experience, I have had to do a lot of translating and trying to communicate. It is stretching, but also very good!

Oh, and I have a new love for rice, beans, tortillas, eggs and salsa…MMMM!!!!

And something to make you laugh (well at least it makes me laugh!): My current list of strangest things I have seen…
Everyone rides motor bikes here, but sometimes you see quite interesting things like….
….5 people
….4 police, all with rifle type guns
….a man carrying a bicycle
…a piñata
In general…
….a man taking a nap in his hammock that was attached underneath his trailer on his semi truck
