Now that I have seen, I am responsible

I am responsible for what I've seen: Luke 12:48 says that much is required from those to whom much is given.  We will be held accountable for what we know.       This week I spent some time internalizing this, remembering once again the great charge I am given in my life in general as well as how Cambodia changes my charge.      In Luke 12, Jesus tells a parable about His second coming by relating it to the servants in their master's house being ready for his return at any moment.  Peter's then asks Jesus...

Choum Reap Lia, Battambang!

When it was time to say goodbye to all my friends and family back home two and a half months ago, I remember saying (and being told), "It'll be over before you know it." Now, I have to admit I was quite skeptical about that part… Over before I know it? Yea. Right. Back then, I thought three and a half months away from home was a lifetime. And yet, when it came time to board the bus yesterday and move to Phnom Pehn, I had to wonder, "Where did the last couple months go?" I will miss Battambang and all the people we met there, but I feel so much peace in Phnom...

11.11.11

Constantly I find there are more layers. More layers of me to unravel, more parts of God to discover. Every time I think I have this God thing figured out, this walking with the Lord, I find that it’s just another call to go deeper. There are no plateaus in the Christian walk.If there are, it is us who put them there. When I can’t comfortably put God in a box anymore, when I refuse the call to go deeper, I am creating a plateau that isn’t even there. I build the wall, the flat place, the spot where I draw a line in the sand and say Here God, but no further. This goes...

The Spirit is alive and resides in each of us.

“God by His providence brings you into circumstances that you can’t understand at all, but the Spirit of God understands. God brings you to places, among people, and into certain conditions to accomplish a definite purpose through the intercession of the Spirit in you.” –Oswald Chambers   “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for...

What exactly defines family? I ask because I think I’ve found more of mine in Central America. That sounds weird, finding family in another country, but I have.  This past week we visited Honduras to renew our visas and I was actually dreading the trip. I didn’t want to leave the little bit of normality I have found here in Casa Verde and be drug around with a busy ministry schedule. But by the end of the 5 days, a little piece of my heart is left in Honduras....

Out of Dust

Stop. Close Facebook, your email, and any other things you may have open. Except, obviously, this tab. Turn off that music. You may want a sweater for this next bit- I hear it's getting a bit chilly there. Leave your cell phone behind. Go outside. I'll see you in 5 minutes? Did you do it? Isn't God Breathtakingly Amazing?

Holy Crap!!

These last three weeks have been such a blessing that I don’t deserve. My team and I had the great experience to spend debrief (debrief is were we meet with the 2 people that work for adventures in missions and talk to us about how things have been going for the past month and a half) in Antigua, Guatemala. Hands down, Antigua is the prettiest place I’ve ever been to in my life-time and God willing would love to visit that place again before I meet Jesus. But that’s not what I’m blogging about today. I’m typing this today to tell you about the experience I had...

Honduras

Hey ya’ll this past week was great. On Thursday we traveled to Honduras and spent the weekend there. It was awesome to experience a different culture. It was surprising to see how different the cultures were even though the countries are so close together. While we were there we were blessed by the people there and were so incredibly loved on. Even when they didn’t have much they were so generous in giving us what they could. It was a good reminder that it is a greater blessing for one to give than to receive.   While we were there we visited several churches and schools....

Purple Couch

Yesterday, we had an ATL ministry morning. For those of you unfamiliar with this (me being one), it stands for Ask The Lord. You literally pray and ask God what he wants you to do and where he wants you to go during the time set aside. With that introduction, we split into groups and began to pray. My group started with individual prayer. Ok God, I said. I have no idea what I'm doing. And I'm sure hoping you do. Nothing. Really God? Something? Anything??? And finally, randomly, completely unexpected, God told me "purple couch." Well, really more burgandy....

Hospital Honduras

I can’t help but smile every time I think about my time in Honduras. For a short amount of four days that we stayed in Puerto Cortez, i felt so much love and joy from these wonderful people. From the moment we met the Burgos family to visiting iglesias to finally going home with a little treat at the beach, we were all covered with the generosity of the Honduran people.                Some of us were sick before the trip and even though the thought of going to another country sounds really good, some were still not...

Saving the Best for Last

This last week has been my favorite week of the trip, beginning with our mini mission trip to Honduras.  I don’t think anyone was really looking forward to Honduras-they told us we would be out doing ministry from 8 in the morning until 10 at night, and then sleeping on the floor of a church. And considering the fact that the Honduras border is only 20 minutes or so away from Puerto Barrios, we were expecting a similar cultures and the dark spiritual climate that surrounds our own port city. But Puerto Cortes was completely different than any of us expected. First of all, everyone...

IT’S NOVEMBER!!

This month has been great! We went to Honduras on Thursday and stayed five days. We worked with local churches and I fell in love with Puerto Cortez, Honduras. The people welcomed us with open arms and showed us so much love. It was great!  A LITTLE ENCOURAGEMENT FROM MY DEVOTION JESUS CALLING…. "Sit quietly with Me, letting all your fears and worries bubble up to the surface of your consciousness. There, in the Light of My Presence, the bubbles pop and disappear. However, some fears surface over and over again, especially fear of the future. You tend to project...
