Adventures in Missions Introduces “Social Justice and the Gospel” at Catalyst Conference

Gainesville, GA, Oct. 5—Adventures in Missions is partnering with this year’s Catalyst conference (October 5-7) to unveil a visitor tent highlighting the role of social justice in the gospel story.  “Christians often focus on just the Fall and the Redemption — ‘We’re sinners and we need Jesus’ — but when we leave out the messages of Creation and Restoration, we’re cutting out half of the gospel,” said Daniel Homrich, Adventures marketing director.  The 40-by 80-foot tent will allow conference attendees to journey...

The Pharisee in Me

Proverbs 21:2"Every way of man is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts."   God showed me that I have a tendency to be a creature of habitand this can have negative consequences on my spiritual life. In our relationship with Him motions of repetitiveness can take away some of our passion in who we are and what we do as Christians. Let me explain. In the morning when I first wake up, I formed a good habit of giving thanks to God and praying for the day that lies ahead. Over time it has formed a religious tendency in me. One morning I got up and didn't...

FREE AT LAST!

"So if the Son sets you FREE, you will indeed be FREE." John 8:36 After dinner last night, we all met in Elle and Kendall's room just to talk about our day and the general shedule for the upcoming week. We were also told to pray and make a list of the lies we so often hear and ,unfortunately, so often believe about ourselves. Satan HATES what we are doing here and Who we are here for. The enemy will use any lie or twist any truth into something that only leads us on the path straight to that poison tree that tempted Eve all those centuries ago. I believe that there is...

Handprint on my Heart

Hello everyone!!! We have already made it through our fourth week in Cambodia. I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences of my life so far. We are working with an organization called "Transform Asia". Transform Asia is an organization that helps keep young teens out of drugs, prostitution, gangs, ect and gives them an education. God is giving us the opportunity to invest in these children's lives not only spiritually but educationally. I am so grateful God has placed each and everyone if these kids in our lives and that he has intrusted us with...

Last Saturday Night

I’m going to start this update with last Saturday night. Jesus loves me. He gave me live folk music at Cafe Eden. Best thing ever. It definitely was feeding my soul, please excuse the cheesiness. But it’s true. Just the raw, pure harmony of a couple of guitars and 2 voices was what I needed to reboot my batteries. It was perfect. Anyways, I found out some more info about the boys at the TransformAsia centre. Yes, they do mainly deal with girls who have been either in prostitution or were trafficked, but these boys had no where to go, so Sothea, the youth pastor at the...

Street Children

First off— God is amazing. I know that this simple truth gets turned into a watered down expression many times, but it doesn’t change the fact that he still is amazing. Our team is very close knit, and we are beginning to see each other gain freedom in our own lives by living tightly together in a community of 14 women who passionately love Jesus and desperately desire to live in his will. Everyday we are encouraged to walk in our individual spiritual giftings, and everyday we set aside time to call out the truth in each other and speak life into one another. This daily process...

Week 2.

I wish that I could write a compelling blog to captivate your attention and explain to you the events of this week but for some reason I just can't. I am overloaded so many things… culture, emotion, God, injustice, community, passion. The list could continue on and on. So forgive my wandering thoughts. At times I may stray. But I will do my best to string together some of the thoughts and emotions I am processing. My heart is alive and aware of the emotions it shut out for so long. My feet are dirty from wading through murky water everyday. My eyes are different. They carry...

A Heart That Holds On

Everybody told me that the first month would suck.  And I knew it would be a challenge.  I mean, I’ve never been away from home for more than a couple of weeks at a time.  And I’ve never been away from family for more than a week at a time.  So when God said, “Hey Amy.  What’s up?  You should go out of the country for a semester with people you don’t know and fight human trafficking,” I kinda knew what I was getting into. But holy cow.  I’ve only been gone for three weeks and I’ve already seen so much. ...

Be to Become

Psalm 46:1-11 "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way…God is within her she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts… Be still (cease striving) and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth…"  This past week during a feedback session, Kori reminded us that we are currently in Cambodia; she reminded us that we spent this past year preparing for now-we...

I’m Not Afraid To Watch You Change Me

This past Monday at Transform Asia, we had a big celebration! A bunch of churches around the Battambang area came to our center and enjoyed games, fellowship, worship, drama skits (performed by “The Foreigners”—that’s how we were referred to all day) confusing but good conversation, and food!  Admittedly, most of the time we didn’t understand what was going on due to our lack of Khmer speaking skills.  But regardless, it was a phenomenal day!  There is such beauty in people from different denominations, groups, and nationalities, all in one room...

Restoration in Every Nation…

Restored as ifNothingwas EverTaken In the last few weeks, the word restoration has been ever present in my conversations with not only my team but in my conversations with God and restoration has constantly been on my mind. This word began to become engraved in my mind at training camp when our team was thinking about what God had for us in Cambodia while making a canvas for our team. One of my teammates Hailey came up with, RESTORED AS IF NOTHING WAS EVER TAKEN. That is a very powerful statement and was pretty much the “mission statement” for team Cambodia. In the...

Worth More Than Our Efforts

September 16th, 2011   I have learned a lot here in Battambang—an entire week without internet or a cell phone gives a person PLENTY of time to think, even aside from the work we have been doing at the women’s center.  First of all, this week was full of building relationships with the women and neighborhood kids at the center.  When we are not at the center, we have been preparing English lessons, Bible study devotions and sermons—or just exploring the community that we live in and enjoying the people here.  We ended up moving from the outside of...
