Fourth of July isn’t celebrated here obviously, because it’s Guatemala. But our awesome leaders decided to plan a fun day for us. We went to the beach about an hour away from here and got to swim and eat some traditional Guatemalan food. It was so delicious! Then as if that wasn’t enough, we got domino’s for dinner! It was a nice taste of home. Finally, to top it all off we took turns hitting a pinata at the house and eating lots of candy. Anyways, it was an awesome 4th of July and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Besides our fun holiday, we have been doing lots of ministry this week. I got the opportunity to teach English to some classes at a special needs school here. I was really nervous, but the kids were so sweet and really wanted to learn. My leader and I will be able to do it 4 more times this summer. We have also gotten to do park ministry, prostitute ministry, go to the orphanage and visit several churches. At one church we had an hour and a half time slot to fill. That was scary! We did 4 skits we had been practicing, led worship and shared testimonies. For most of thr service, the church was quiet. Until the end. During our last worship song, we invited anyone who wanted prayer to come up and we would pray with them. I wasn’t expecting anyone to come up, but to my surprise about half the church came up. It was like nothing I’ve ever seen. People were raising their hands, dropping to their knees, crying, etc. I don’t know what God was doing in those people, but he was definitely there doing something. I am not used to that kind of worship, but I’m really learning to get rid of expectations and realize that God works differently in everyone. There’s no right or wrong way to worship or experience God.
It’s crazy to believe that we only have 2 weeks of ministry left before we head to Antigua for relaxation qnd debrief. I will be so sad to leave this beautiful place, but God will still be here working and moving. I am going to make the most of the rest of my time here in Guatemala!!
Thank you so much for your prayers. The people here need prayer so badly, so please keep it up! 🙂
