Finding Purpose in the In-Between

Done with school and wondering what to do next? Hanna Skahn was in the same place. Drawn to adventure, she chose to go on a Passport trip, Adventures’ program for 18-22 year olds. Now, she’s in Guatemala having what she calls “the greatest adventure” of all.

Even though freshman year seemed like yesterday, Hanna found herself holding a high school diploma, wondering what was next. Amidst the acceptance letters and decisions to be made, Hanna came across the Passport trip to Guatemala.

“I must admit, I was drawn selfishly in pursuit of adventure. However, I didn’t realize that my greatest adventure might be searching out the places deep within in my own heart.”

Needing her appendix removed, Hanna stayed back home in America as her team left for Guatemala. Arriving two weeks later than her team, Hanna was afraid she had missed out on valuable time.

“I spent my first few days trying to catch up physically, emotionally, and spiritually.”

Packing light for the trip, Hanna thought she had left most of her “baggage” at home. When she didn’t have technology and material possessions to distract her, insecurity, comparison, and doubt began to take over her mindset.

“I quickly recognized this was what I was dealing with and how exhausting and overwhelming it would be to maintain that mentality. I realized my focus should be on God and God alone. Not what I have and don’t have, not what I’m lacking, but how complete I am in him. “

Focusing on the Lord isn’t easy. It’s a choice to be made day by day.

“God is teaching me what it truly means to seek him above everything else by keeping my focus on him alone.”

“Since this realization, God has brought undeniable peace into my heart this week.”

Is there anything taking away your focus from the Lord today?
