Why Go On a Short Term Mission Trip?

When I first met a friend of mine, who is now a long term missionary in the Philippines, she told me her heart for missions began on a short term mission trip to New Orleans. She’s not the only long term missionary who’s experienced the impact of short term missions. Many other long term missionaries’  heart for missions began on a short term mission trip. Most of these trips happened during their formative years, through a youth group.

 

Short term trips affect each participant differently. Some will feel called to full time missions, others will feel called to later give financially to missions, while still others will feel called to make a yearly trip a part of their lifestyle. 

 

There is no doubt. Short term missions can and has changed lives. 

 

Youth group leaders have the unique opportunity to begin shaping the future of the mission field by giving their youth an opportunity to begin serving now.

 

During these trips worldviews shift, God speaks, and sometimes for the first time in their lives, young people clearly hear his voice. 

 

In a world that’s full of noise, mission trips allow young people to slow down and listen. To listen to God telling them who they are in him, that he has a calling designed specifically for them, and that he has given them the power and ability to change the landscape of the world. 

 

There have always been many reasons not to go. Finances. Fear. Opposition from others.

 

But the truth is we’ve seen God provide financially in incredible ways, and we’ve seen young people who were once full of fear walk in confidence and boldness. And to us, that far outweighs the what ifs of what could go wrong because we know God, through everything, always does what’s right.

to help them tell their stories and to find themselves. We want to provide
