Real Life Training Camp

Our friend and colleague, Matt Snyder, spent last week at AIM headquarters for the Real Life training camp.  Here is his account of that experience:   This past week 43 God-thirsty, college-aged students gathered together in Gainesville, Georgia to prepare themselves to go overseas.  Some have never even been on a mission trip, let alone another country, and here they were getting ready to set out for Nicaragua, Swaziland, Kenya, or India.  One thing was unanimous though: their hearts were determined to make an impact on the world no matter where they went. I was...

They are: God-Centeredness An excellent short-term mission seeks first God’s glory and his kingdom, and is expressed through our: Purpose – Centering on God’s glory and his ends throughout our entire STM process Lives – Sound biblical doctrine, persistent prayer, and godliness in all our thoughts, words, and deeds Methods...

Missionary or Vacationary?

Jon Acuff of the popular blog Stuff Christians Like recently wrote on the subject of prayer-walking. He mentioned how a “missionary” he knew went on a “prayer-walking” trip to Rome, Italy. In between buying trinkets, he lifted up a few prayers and asked for support money to supplement his “ministry.” Jon wrote a humorous quiz about whether you’re a vacationary or a missionary.   I like Jon’s take on what makes a missionary versus just a Christian on vacation (albeit, with some good intentions of praying). The true spirit of missions is...

August 2009 Update from Nsoko, Swaziland

The following is an update for those of you who support what Adventures In Missions is doing in Swaziland: Real Life Missions Team While the college-age Real Life Missions team was here, we did a clothing drive. 80 women, men and children were each given at least one new clothing item. Some were given entire new outfits. Before each person was taken to the area with their size, we washed their hands and feet and faces. Afterward, each person was given an orange. (That may not sound like much, but fruits are a treat here). On July 18, there was a celebration for the team. A bull was killed...

Christians Attacked in Pakistan

This recent blog entry from Seth Barnes is a response to a horrifying action of religious hatred committed in Pakistan:   The struggle between Muslims and Christians is starting to boil over again in places like Yemen, Pakistan and Iran where Christians have been martyred in the last month. Islam teaches, “kill the infidels” whereas Jesus said, “bless those who persecute you.” Not exactly a fair fight by the world’s standards. I have a long-standing relationship with Emmanuel Sadiq, a young pastor in Pakistan who is like a spiritual son to me. I...

This is a recent article from the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel about two local Indiana women, Andrea Smith and Angie Hoeppner, who will be joining the January 2010 World Race team:   Two area women enter World Race Event is 11-month mission to help people around the globe.   Andrea White of Columbia City was browsing a friend’s blog when she came across a link for the World Race and curiosity set in. After a thorough read-through, a sense of adventure replaced her curiosity.   Now White is locked into the 11-month mission trip, along with Fort Wayne native Angie...

Educational Missions: Redefining Field Trips

Redefine “field trip” this year as you take your students on a week of ministry and cultural education. These special mission trips will expose your young people to the needs of the world and provide plenty of opportunities for experiential learning. AIM staff will provide the opportunity to learn about and experience the local culture at or near the ministry location so your group can make the most of the experience. During the trip, the project leader will regularly challenge the students, asking what they’ve learned each day. You will also have a day to sight-see and...

The winners are listed below, but first, a note from our judges:   “We were all impressed by the range of high-quality images submitted for the contest.  Judging was difficult, so we tried to stick with the criteria for this particular contest, which were:  “the image should capture a soul, a moment, a place and a ministry.”  Virtually all of the images submitted by our 29 finalists did a terrific job of capturing a “soul...
