Why Short Term Missions Preparation Is Important

You need to prepare for a mission trip. Plain and simple. Although prayer and spontaneity may help create a sense of adventure during your project, failing to prepare for a trip to the best of your ability is just bad stewardship.   Your preparation for a short term missions trip is crucial to the effectiveness of your project. We don’t mean to be harsh, but unprepared groups can damage the credibility of our witness in an area.   As a short-term missions organization, we do our best to uphold the credibility of the host church and local pastor. We guard against losing...

How to Practice Listening Prayer

Hearing God’s voice, what we call “listening prayer“, is a part of any AIM mission trip. In fact, the whole trip (whether it is a team of adults or a youth group) is structured around giving participants practical experiences with prayer.   But this process isn’t just for missionaries or people that go on short-term mission trips; listening prayer is something that every follower of Christ should be doing. How to hear God’s voice through listening in prayer Below is an excerpt from an article Seth Barnes wrote, called “The Basics of Listening...

AIM 20th Anniversary: Words of Thanks

Last month, during our 20th Year Anniversary Celebration at Adventures In Missions, we passed out cards and asked everyone to jot down some memorable AIM moments and ways in which the ministry touched them.   Here are some of the prayers, memories, and encourages that were shared:   While out on the World Race, Gary Black described Seth by saying, “He’ll lay down in the mud so you can step on his back and go higher.” I didn’t know Seth well then and didn’t understand what that meant. Having come on staff, I now know. I’ve come to know Seth...

20 Years of Ministry and Missions: From Our Founder

This year at AIM, we celebrate our 20th anniversary. What an amazing couple of decades it’s been! I don’t think any of us could have guessed where we’d be now having started in our garage in Florida. Along the way, we’ve learned so much about listening to the Lord and about responding to him in obedience.   We’ve taken more than 80,000 people on short-term trips. And many of those have gone with us on a longer journey, a journey of discovering God’s kingdom together in the dark and dirty corners of the world.    Through them, we’ve...

That Weird Feeling After a Mission Trip Is Normal

You know that weird feeling you sometimes have after a mission trip? Like, your “normal” is no longer normal? Well, that’s — for lack of a better word — normal. In other words, if your life feels a little bit wrecked after a mission trip, congratulations. That’s supposed to happen.   As an AIM staffer, I’ve learned from hearing others’ experiences that a mission trip is the perfect opportunity for God to turn your world upside down. As a mission leader, I have even had the “privilege” of experiencing the feeling myself. On...
