Missionary or Vacationary?

Jon Acuff of the popular blog Stuff Christians Like recently wrote on the subject of prayer-walking. He mentioned how a “missionary” he knew went on a “prayer-walking” trip to Rome, Italy. In between buying trinkets, he lifted up a few prayers and asked for support money to supplement his “ministry.” Jon wrote a humorous quiz about whether you’re a vacationary or a missionary.   I like Jon’s take on what makes a missionary versus just a Christian on vacation (albeit, with some good intentions of praying). The true spirit of missions is...

August 2009 Update from Nsoko, Swaziland

The following is an update for those of you who support what Adventures In Missions is doing in Swaziland: Real Life Missions Team While the college-age Real Life Missions team was here, we did a clothing drive. 80 women, men and children were each given at least one new clothing item. Some were given entire new outfits. Before each person was taken to the area with their size, we washed their hands and feet and faces. Afterward, each person was given an orange. (That may not sound like much, but fruits are a treat here). On July 18, there was a celebration for the team. A bull was killed...

Christians Attacked in Pakistan

This recent blog entry from Seth Barnes is a response to a horrifying action of religious hatred committed in Pakistan:   The struggle between Muslims and Christians is starting to boil over again in places like Yemen, Pakistan and Iran where Christians have been martyred in the last month. Islam teaches, “kill the infidels” whereas Jesus said, “bless those who persecute you.” Not exactly a fair fight by the world’s standards. I have a long-standing relationship with Emmanuel Sadiq, a young pastor in Pakistan who is like a spiritual son to me. I...

Educational Missions: Redefining Field Trips

Redefine “field trip” this year as you take your students on a week of ministry and cultural education. These special mission trips will expose your young people to the needs of the world and provide plenty of opportunities for experiential learning. AIM staff will provide the opportunity to learn about and experience the local culture at or near the ministry location so your group can make the most of the experience. During the trip, the project leader will regularly challenge the students, asking what they’ve learned each day. You will also have a day to sight-see and...

3 Day Mission Trips for Youth Groups

Who has time for missions? Most people spend their entire week facing the rigors of an overloaded schedule, stressful deadlines, and demanding employers.    They spend their days patiently waiting for the weekend, and their chance to relax at the lake, work in the yard, or take a quick trip out of town.    What if you had a chance to take a trip that would make a difference and still make it in to the office or school on Monday morning? What if the students in your youth group had an opportunity to get immersed into a missions setting… over the weekend? ...

Working In the Slums of Kenya

Here is a recent article from the Arlington Times about Paige Mackie who went on a Real Life mission trip to Kenya, Africa, where she ministered in the slums of Kibera for three life-changing months: Paige Mackie, of Arlington, recently returned from three months in Kenya where she spent time with children in the slums of Nairobi and offered a compassionate hand to orphans infected with HIV or just abandoned by their families. “It was very humbling,” Mackie said. “They welcome you and bam, you are friends.” Mackie was based in Nairobi for two...

AIM For A Cause: Fighting Trafficking Around The Globe

At Adventures In Missions we are constantly working to combat the struggles facing the “least of these” around the globe. Through their experiences in the field, our missionaries act as a window to the rest of the world, calling our attention to the issues they encounter day in and day out. It is our hope that by shedding light on these injustices, we can inspire others to step into action and make a difference.   This month at AIM, we are highlighting one of the greatest issues facing us both at home and abroad: human trafficking. Each year, thousands of women and...
