Que tienes en su mano? Un Gusanito!

Daniela y Yo This week was busier with ministry and it was so amazing to see God working through each activity.   Park Ministry: At the park we strengthened friendships we made last week with the people that were saved last week.   Dump Ministry:  This was our first visit to the dump and we were just simply going around telling them about an activity for children we were hosting on Thursday. Also, we would ask them for prayer requests and pray over them. There was one lady who was standing off to the side and she came right up next to me in the middle of the prayer...

I went bar hopping

We're almost two weeks into being on the field in Guatemala. Things started off pretty slow with ministry but have started to pick up. The past few days have been my favorite. We went to an orphanage on Thursday where we got to hold the cutest babies and learn more about the work we will get to be doing there in the weeks to come. Yesterday we went to the bars and witnessed to the prostitutes. For some reason I wasn't really affected by it, I thought I was going to be upset and angry, but it's only by the grace of God I walked out of the bars with a smile on my face. I just...

A Servant’s Heart

Well my last post was right before we arrived in Kampong Chnang and God has done so much in my life and in the environment between the girls and our team.  From the first day it was so easy to join in the lives of the weomen. A huge blessing to have are the children of some of the girls and around ten orphans who have stolen my heart each in a unique way. God is beginning to use each member of our team to work in the lives of these weomen and children. My favorite thing to see is the smile across their faces and when they laugh at us!! I can definitley say that I love these precious...

Behind Hardened Faces

As I looked out the window as we flew into the capital city of Phnom Penh, my first thought about Cambodia was: muddy water and colorful roofs.  An interesting contrast, but before I had much time to think about it, we were riding away from the airport in these things called “Tuk-Tuks.”  Cambodia’s version of a taxi, this is definitely my new favorite way of travel. Riding around in the Tuk-Tuk! As we were riding around in our Tuk-Tuks, it hit me that I was actually in the country I’ve been reading about for the past couple weeks.  Within the first...

Dancing In The Rain and Monster Spiders

Hello hello friends and family! We are now living in Kampong Chhnang and it has been anything but boring. The girls were so welcoming since the beginning and there are some orphans too that bring a lot of joy into this place. My ten favorite moments thus far: 1. My first time riding in a tuk tuk. Those things are so cool. It is a motorcycle pulling a carriage type thing that we sit in. It is quite the party. 2.Going to the Joy Daycare in Phnom Penh. TransformAsia picks up kids from the dump and they bring them to the centre. First, they sing songs such as: This Is The Day The Lord Has...

don ich mo’way?

"don ich mo'way?" that is the definite incorrect spelling of a phrase we have pronounced definitly incorrectly seemingly hundreds of times since landing in this beautiful and hot country. "what is your name?"  despite the hardships of a language barrier, that phrase has opened the door to many meaningful and impactful relationships we have been able to form in our first week here at the New Development Center.  The people here are so beautiful. Getting to share life with them is becoming one of my favorite parts.  Whether is is learning from an...

Learning to Love

I’m having a hard time choosing the words to use to describe my experience so far.  I will always believe that pictures can explain much better than my words, so I hope you can find the joy in these.  At this point, I can’t post any pictures of the women who I am working and living with day to day for safety purposes.   After long days of traveling, we arrived in the capital city Phnom Phen. We were instantly greeted by 4 tuk tuks, which we soon found out would be our transportation not only to the airport, but also for the next 2 months.  We drove through...

on teaching and being taught

Hello world!! Well, it's been a long week but such an amazing one! I think a few other team members are summarizing things we've done since arriving, so I'm going to skip those details. As a small summary, we arrived in Phnom Penh and spent two days there. The iced coffee was amazing (I really can't get over it). We visited the Killing Fields and a genocide museum. I do not have words I can express from those experiences, and so I'm not going to try. But I will say that it gives a great understanding for what the people here have gone through. I think for...

Week One

Wow! What a crazy week and a half it has been. We made it to Phnom Phen and it was definitely culture shock! We were there for a couple of days and then moved to where we will be for two months, Kampong Chhnang. We arrived and I feel in love with the women and children. The “compound” has about 8 orphans that live there- they just came in off the street. Here is a recap of what we have been doing everyday: 5:30- wake up under mosquito net, covered in sweat. It is so hot and humid. Pee in the squat toilet and brush teeth with water bottle. 6:00- bell (like a gong) rings and it is...

Things I have done in Guatemala:

Washed my clothes using a pila (multi-purpose sink). There are few things more satisfying than washing your own clothes by hand using a bucket and a bar of soap. Taught a hula to a group of girls on my team. It was such a cool experience to share this aspect of my culture with my friends! Especially because in many churches in Guatemala, dancing is considered a sin. I felt like our hula was alive with the aloha of the islands which I have come to know and love and really served as a testament to the beauty of this form of worship. The girls I taught were such good sports and very...

Guatever….

I feel like this is where I belong…not specifically here in Guatemala but overseas missions. I LOVE every ounce of it. Like seriously.  I love meeting new people. I love learning their culture and language. I love serving with everything I have. I love being so broken only God can fill me. I love annoying itchy mosquito bites. I love having bland rice and beans with every meal. I love having little Guatemalan babies kiss me and ask me to come play with them again. I love when their parents want to get to know me. I love being the crazy christian gringos. I love being so homesick...
